Hi I have just upgraded a mail server from dovecot-0.99 to stable (dovecot-1.0.59). My normal desktop email client, kmail is working fine, but outlook keeps producing PLAIN authentication errors, and refusing to authenticate. From dovecot.log, I can see dovecot: Mar 13 10:57:30 Error: auth(default): sql(<xxxxxxxMy Detailsxxxxxxxxxxx>): Password query must return a field named "password" I have tried setting, unsetting disable_plaintext_auth in dovecot.conf, to no avail. What is happening, and what should I do to get all email cleints to work. Simon -- Simon Windsor Email: simon.windsor at cornfield.org.uk Tel: 01454 617689 Mob: 07720 447385

Maybe kmail got somehow confused and recreating the IMAP account entirely would be easiest way to fix it. -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Hi Dropping all mail accounts and recreating with kmail provides no, or ONE, email in each folder. Confihuring Evolution, which I dislike, picks up all emails, like Outlook. Can I assume that there is a kmail/dovecot problem here? Has anyone seen this before and fixed it? All the best! A kill -1 to dovecot will only reload the server process and the login auth processes...it won't kill your already established IMAP connection, which as far as I can tell, keeps using old settings. If you are having that many problems, delete all of your subscriptions files and dovecot caches and start from scratch. I've had to do it a few times to get things to work as expected.
What problems exist with Thunderbird? Both my wife and I are using Thunderbird with no issues on both OSX and WindowsXP. (No issues that I'm noticing anyway). I'm using 1.0 Test 64: Dovecot v1.0-test64 starting up Frank Simon Windsor wrote:> Hi > > Thanks for the advice, but no luck. > > In the end, I am now using Evolution, which I do not like but it works. > It appears that Kmails IMAP and Thunderbirds IMAP are broken, > particularly kmails! > > Installing Dovecot 1.0.59 improves Dovecots IMAP software, but exposes > flaws for Kmail and Thunderbird! > > So, until the update to KDE, due at the end of March, I will endure > Evolution. > > Thanks, once again > > Simon > > On Sun, 2005-03-13 at 17:40 -0600, F.
