Hi I use to leave my PC turned on for a long time, but ultimately I've found it blocked. The mouse just don't work and the keyboard leds are blinking and there is no HD activity. I'd like to know which log should I check, to find the problem or what should I do. I u need more details, please just make know how to give'em. -- ________________________ Dago Pacheco Encargado de Inform?tica Maetranza Makimet Ltda.

As far as I can tell, the kernel has taken an "oops", at which time it is not able to even spew kernel panic messages to the console, so it blinks the keyboard LED in morse code giving you an erorr number or similar info. unfortunately, I cannot read morse, and it blinks too fast for me to write it down so I've never figured out what the cause was. Check your hardware before check the software. You should check the CPU fan especially, so the boxes appears totally freezed when CPU is overwarmed; next, the mobo and the RAM. If don't exist any hardware error, it will be time to check the software. -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... I tried to look for an applet to check it, but i found just for Gnome (I use KDE), so, is there any system file o command that show me that information? -- ________________________ Dago Pacheco Encargado de Inform?tica Maetranza Makimet Ltda.

I think it has to do with overheating. Since I changed out my harddrive (which died from overheating), I have not had the problem. I don't think it is due to CPU overheating as the fan is running at max all the time. But typically I would hear the harddrive spinning and not doing anything.> I'd like to know which log should I check, to find the problem or what > should I do.Check the system logs from before the restart.> I u need more details, please just make know how to give'em. >

My drive overheated and died. Painfully. Fortunately, a blue ice pack under it kept it kool enough long enough to copy all the data off it. I ran this system for 4 years with XP. 9 months with Linux and the drive toasted. Either: The drive was 'due' to toast. The constant drive usage compared to XP made it run hotter, longer.
