Hi List, Would the Wiki be interested in a very simple guide to setting up postfix/dovecot? I'm no expert, but have been learning postfix recently, and would be more than happy to write one based on my own setup/experience. As there's so many different scenarios for which postfix could be configured, I'm thinking just a basic guide for a working mail server to get new users up and running, and from there they can tweak to their own environment. I'm thinking broad appeal (hopefully) for those who don't know where to start. I documented my own setup as I went (below) so something based on this to give an idea: http://forums.pcper.com/showthread.php?t=448351 ...and if that goes down well, then maybe a section on anti-spam settings (_restrictions) available in postfix to complement the recent postgrey greylisting guide. As always, I'd welcome input/comments from those more experienced! Regards, Ned

Otherwise it looks good as a minimal guide. Cheers, Ralph -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Thanks for the clarification - that completely passed me over when I set up my system. Any thoughts on mbox vs maildir and pop vs imap. Is there accepted best practice or is this something best left to the individual users discretion after reading up for themselves on the individual merits of each?> > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > > _______________________________________________ > CentOS-docs mailing list > CentOS-docs at centos.org > http://lists.centos.org/mailman/listinfo/centos-docs

This is the current configuration we use in our offices. Currently we run this on CentOS 4 but are in the process of migrating to CentOS 5 and I could do it for both. Not sure if dovecot on 5 was compiled with LDAP support but I know I had to recompile it on 4 with LDAP. --Matthew Bowman
I have created a page and made a start here: http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/postfix It's not finished yet, but please feel free to look at what I've done so far for correctness. I particularly struggled with the introduction so if anyone wants to offer comments or completely rewrite it, I won't be offended :) I'd also like to write a section on restrictions available in postfix but am unsure whether this would best be suited within this guide, in a separate guide or part of an advanced guide as offered by Matthew Bowman. I was thinking along the lines of this article, also published under creative commons license: http://www.freesoftwaremagazine.com/articles/focus_spam_postfix/ Any thoughts on where this may best be suited? I'm thinking a separate page on simple spam filtering in postfix to cover this material or even integrate it into the postgrey guide? Regards, Ned
