How to pull /var/mail mbox leftovers to Maildirs?
I just got my preferred postfix+dovecot(-1.1.1) configuration working on
Ubuntu 8.04 server. Users and Maildirs migrated, etc.
I wasn't seeing inbound mail (in the email client) until I set:
sudo postconf -e 'home_mailbox = Maildir/'
Which I hadn't needed in the previous server's main.cf
I have a few hours worth of inbound mostly-spam in /var/mail/(username)
during the time I was figuring this out.
What command line tools could I use to pull those message from the mboxes
to the Maildirs?
Thanks.

Ther should be messages from dovecot when receiving mail at least when dovecot lda has something to do with delivery.
>home_mailbox = Maildir/
This tells postfix where to deliver the mails. dovecot is not configured to delivet mails.
Take a look at dovecot wiki there are examples of how to incorporate dovecot lda into thendelivery process.

Using dovecot as LDA for postfix
...ase 5.7 (Tikanga)
postfix-2.9.1-1.rhel5
dovecot 1.0.7
I want to config a complete postfix-dovecot mail server. First I configured postfix to use procmail, its default LDA and dovecot for pop3 and imap. I didn't changed main.cf a lot, just myhostname and a few other properties. I didn't set home_mailbox. About dovecot.conf here is the output of dovecot -n :

dovecot.sieve file location?
CentOS 5.2
Postfix-2.3.3
Dovecot-1.1.1
Dovecot.Sieve-1.1.5
I have setup with:
home_mailbox = Maildir/ (/etc/postfix/main.cf) &
mail-location = maildir:~/Maildir (/etc/dovecot.conf)
I have created a 'test' user to test Sieve 'Vacation' setup. My questions
are:
1. Which folder '.dovecot.sieve' script is copied into? Is it 'home/test'
-or- 'home/...

Maildir detection..
It would seem that dovecot cannot detect my maildir. The system DO NOT
use "~/Maildir". It is arbitrary across a few systems, actualy, and am
curious if there is a way to "force" in the config file where the
maildir explicitly resides, much like Postfix's "home_mailbox"
configuration parameter.
On a side note, I compiled dovecot 0.99.4 on a NetBSD 1.6-release i386
machine, it when imap_listen is not set in the config file, it only
binds to the tcp6 ::1 address. Any clues?

maildir location
...for maildir to be somewhere
other than ~/.maildir. ( like /var/mail/%u/Maildir, where /var/mail is
local storage). There are about 200 ldap users who will be using this
email server through squirrel-mail or access them through email
clients.
By the way, I am confused about one setting in postfix : home_mailbox
= .maildir/ in main.cf . Does this really play any role? If so, which
parameter should be changed and to what and with what permissions to
the new directory.
Hope I was able to explain, if not please let me know for more details..
Thanks,
U

Sieve script does not run in dovecot 2.0 on squeeze

userdb {
args = /etc/dovecot/dovecot-ldap.conf

}
In postfix I have
home_mailbox = Maildir/
the problem is that the script does not run and so the mail is delivered
the initial recipient.
I use LDAP to delivery the mail.
any idea. Thank you.

Add virtual users to the Dovecot configuration
Dear Dovecot Mail List,
I have used Dovecot for quite a while to service remote users on my SOHO
network. A local not-for-profit asked about getting their own dedicated
domain name for mail.
I followed: http://www.howtoforge.com/linux_postfix_virtual_hosting to
set up a virtual, but the article leaves out system accounts and I have
not been able to access both system and virtual users at the

Simple postfix/dovecot guide?
Hi List,
Would the Wiki be interested in a very simple guide to setting up
postfix/dovecot?
I'm no expert, but have been learning postfix recently, and would be
more than happy to write one based on my own setup/experience. As
there's so many different scenarios for which postfix could be
configured, I'm thinking just a basic guide for a working mail server to
get new users up

Mail issues
I know I'm wearing you guys out.
I thought I had mail working. It is but it isn't.
Mail is stuck in /var/spool/mail.
This is a fresh install of dovecot and postfix. I have uninstalled
mailscanner as well until I can figure out what's wrong.
I sent a test mail from root to tdukes but its not being delivered to
~/Maildir

Thanks!
Everything seems to be OK.
I did find where the mail is going. I found it in /Maildir/new/
Postfix is set to home_mailbox = Maildir/ Changing it doesn't help.
Still can't login to roundcube.

as I said in another post, you need to set:
home_mailbox = Maildir/
...in main.cf. Note that the trailing slash means it will be delivered
in maildir format (which is likely what you want), if you would rather
that local(8) deliver in mbox format then omit the trailing slash.
