[Asterisk-Users] Adit 600 as VoIP router (MGCP) and Asterisk
Got at suggestion from CarrierAccess to use the Adit 600 as an VoIP router using MGCP IP protocol, instead of controlling it through an E1. Have anyone tried this configuration? How does MGCP works? I've tried to search for it on Google, but I only find the protocol specification for it. Is Asterisk fully capable of this? I can't find any documentatin covering the use of MGCP in Asterisk. My mission is still to transform one E1 (30ch) from the telco, into 30 FXS channels, all via Asterisk. :) Do anyone have a successful story about using MGCP with Asterisk? Do I still have the full power of Asterisk even when using MGCP? I would like it to be, like if I were using FXS PCI-cards localy in the server. :)

Not financially a good idea not to mention that if you stick to the 2 cards per machine that you would be up to 4 machines just for those 30 ports. I don't know what the MGCP card costs for the ADIT. Compare it to the cost of 1 or 2 T1 ports via Digium cards. -- Steven Critchfield <critch@basesys.com>

Low latency makes echo supression a lot easier. Peter

I have not used the adit 600 with asterisk, but have used it with a voip softswitch trunking via mgcp. i currently have 5 fxs cards with 8 ports per card in an adit unit with a cmg card. i think the price was like $3000 for the unit. it works great but im about to take it out of service and replace with a 96 line adsl+pots unit from occam networks. once i have done that, i plan to use it with our asterisk system. setup of the adit was pretty easy, basically just tell it what the ip address of the mgcp server is. you can do different codecs (even g729) and also change individual fxs settings (gain, attenuation, db level, etc). on our softswitch, the setup was also just as easy and was basically nothing more than giving the ip address of the adit 600, the number of ports and the port naming scheme (aaln) On Friday 21 January 2005 02:06, Daniel Nystr?m wrote:> Got at suggestion from CarrierAccess to use the Adit 600 as an VoIP router > using MGCP IP protocol, instead of controlling it through an E1. I have been testing Occams for some time , curiously I was going to get the MGCP option for my Adit 600 to test with, the Occams are a bit flaky and this makes me nervous and they only support g.711. I wish I could find a similar product with SIP instead of MGCP, Asterisk MGCP support has kind of fallen behind the other protocols. Regards Michael Baird
