Hi all, I have the opportunity to demo asterisk to a large group of people, and was just wandering *how* to do that? ie, I can put a couple of phones on a desk, which looks nice, but doesn't really look exciting, because they are just phones.... so, how do you 'demo' the true power of asterisk?? Hopefully I'll have a couple of minutes to stand up and talk, and then the rest of the time will just be waiting for people to come and check them out, kind of like at a tech exhibition.... Any thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Adam

Also demo IVR and voicemail boxes. not sure if you can send SMS messages through * but that would be a nice too. just some suggestions.. hope it goes well for you. regards, Kavit

[Asterisk-Users] How to demo the Power of Asterisk

How about the 'directory' application with a few thoushand generated users? How about having a couple of people ringing the same extension and demonstrating wait queues? BTW I can still remember them adventure games books where you could read a paragraph, make a choice (eventually casting a dice), jump to another paragraph, etc. An 'adventure' roleplaying AGI application like that would be awesome :-) Cheers, Jean-Michel.
What sells our clients in our Demo room is that we have a Cisco 7960/7940, Polycom IP500, IP600, a GrandStream BudgeTone 101 and of course a laptop with FireFly on it. They love to see how all the different phones can integrate. It shows them that they're not locked down to one model phone always, they can experiment with new phones and features and interfaces. They love it. Another thing is we have each phone on an extension of course, but we also setup a hunt group, a call group, an extension that rings 1 phone for a few rings then rings all the others after no answer (secretary first, then the office can help if they're too busy), etc. it gives them an idea of just how configurable the extensions are. I also have an extension that can dynamically turn on and off a little demo IVR we have setup. Clients have used this to turn on/off the IVR, or activate an after hours voicemail, etc. -----Original Message----- From: asterisk-users-bounces@lists.digium.com [mailto:asterisk-users-bounces@lists.digium.com] On Behalf Of Adam Goryachev Sent: Thursday, December 09, 2004 12:25 AM To: Asterisk Users Mailing List - Non-Commercial Discussion Subject: [Asterisk-Users] How to demo the Power of Asterisk Hi all, I have the opportunity to demo asterisk to a large group of people, and was just wandering *how* to do that? ie, I can put a couple of phones on a desk, which looks nice, but doesn't really look exciting, because they are just phones.... so, how do you 'demo' the true power of asterisk?? >Any thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.Adds, moves, and changes which are the bane of any telephone administrator. Show how fast it is to add an extension with voicemail. Using AMP, I can add a new SNOM in under a minute with voicemail. Contrast that with the 15-20 minutes or so it takes with my Mitel (and usually we bollox it up and we have to start over). If you have access to a PRI show how fast it is to add a DID. Takes me about 90 seconds to set up. Our Mitel -fuggedabout it! we usually call our interconnect to do it for us because it is so error-prone. Really, you have to go to 5 different screens and everything has to be *exactly* right. In Asterisk, I just type in 3 lines in extensions.conf (1 to answer, 1 to dial the extension, 1 to go to voicemail on timeout) and reload, done. If you have access to a fast box, and 15-20 minutes of their time, show them Leif Madsen's (and other's) killer install script to go from blank Linux to complete install in 15 minutes flat: http://szmidt.org/asterisk/asterisk-update.sh What my guys really go gaga over is FOP (the Flash operator panel) the web based voicemail, and emailing voicemail to their inboxes.
