Hello All, I am trying to compile Asterisk under RedHat 8. I downloaded (checked out) the sources from CVS as described on the Asterisk download page. When I start to compile Zaptel, soon after compilation starts, it errors out. As far as I know I have all the OpenSSL and readline and kernal development stuff installed. I usually do a "install everything" when I install RH Linux on a machine. I guess my question is, has anybody else had problems with RH 8 and is there a preferred distro to compile Asterisk on. If I am asking questions asked before, please forgive. I looked over the users mail list a bit but could find nothing concerning this. I am also not much of a software person when it comes to compiling things, most of my expertise is in hardware. I am wanting to use Asterisk to set up a small PBX here @ home and play around with to learn on. Also, is there a place that will clue me in to all of the acronyms used in the docs about Asterisk such as TDM, FXO, etc.. Thanks a bunch in advance. Keith Tucker keith@kiamichi.net
RedHat 8 works fine. What errors are you getting? You'll definitely need the kernel sources installed. -wade ---- Original Message ---- From: asterisk@kiamichi.net To: asterisk-users@lists.digium.com, Subject: RE: [Asterisk-Users] Compile problems Date: Tue, 19 Aug 2003 23:03:16 -0500>Hello All, > >I am trying to compile Asterisk under RedHat 8. Take a look at my RH9 install guide.. You should be able to get it to work similarly on RH8.. http://members.lycos.co.uk/wipe_out/asterisk/ It will also save you about 3GB of disk space by not installing "Everything".. :) later..> Hello All, > > I am trying to compile Asterisk under RedHat 8. Hello again all, I just wanted to let the folks that responded to my mail that I got everything to compile all right. I downloaded the RH 8 rpms for kernel sources, OpenSSL and devel, readline and devel and installed them. I had thought I had already had them on my system and when the rpms ran it even said that they were already there, but I forced the rpm to reinstall everything and when I reinstalled them all, the compile and install worked just fine. The box that I am installing * on has had a bunch of stuff put on it because of me messing around with different software packages so maybe somewhere along the line I just screwed something up. Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks to everyone. I am now saving up to get an FXO and a quad FXS card so that I can continue to set up my home PBX. I'm sure I will have a few (read LOTS of) other questions in the future. Thanks again. Keith Keith Tucker wrote:> Hello All, > > I am trying to compile Asterisk under RedHat 8.
