R help - Sep 2008 - Is there a way to add external variables to axis labels?

Hi, all,

Thanks for all your help in the previous emails.  Question 1: Is there  
a way to use external variables in the axis labels?  Question 2: Is  
there a way to make this variable subscript?

I guess you can solve both 1) and 2) by examining
?bquote
?plotmath
