[Xen-devel] XP: VBD could not connect to backend device: USB boot
Hi: we have following setup: 1. 2.6.16-33-based Xen 3.0.3/Xen-3.0.4 DOM-0 kernels. 2. Using LILO-mbootpack from USB we boot Xen-->DOM-0 setup 3. We mount harddisk and try to install xp.hvm While,we are successful with FCs as DOM-U, for XP we get, VBD (768) could not be connected. We do have max_loop count to 64 and enough loop devices. Note that above error is consistent on both 3.0.3 and 3.0.4 distributions. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks. -Kaushik _______________________________________________ Xen-devel mailing list Xen-devel@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-devel

Re: [Xen-devel] XP: VBD could not connect to backend device:USB boot
Well, as Mats said, it would seem that some fundamental setup is breaking somewhere. Gosh, that does sound a bit vague of me, sorry! I take it you''ve checked the disk images (e.g. /root/xenimages/hd.img) are mounted at the correct positions. You don''t need the ioemu: syntax anymore, so try removing that. Finally, you could try removing the CDROM argument to simplify the setup, although this shouldn''t make a difference! (I don''t believe the problem is with the CD-ROM itself - the error suggests hda can''t connect). I''m sorry I don''t have anything more specific to suggest right now - but it looks like it ought to be fixable, anyhow. Hopefully we can figure it out together. Thanks guys. But no luck. I did try removing both ''ioemu'' and '' Error: Device (769) could not be connected. Backend devices not found. Still is the problem. I have attached Xen start-up log, xm file along with this email... My kernel is 2.6.16-33, Xen-3.0.3/3.0.4.. If that helps.. Note, I am booting from a USB/LILO combo and not from the hard-disk... Just noticed something: disk = [''file:/root/xenimages/hd.img,ioemu:hda1,w'', ''file:/root/xenimages/XP.iso,hde:cdrom,r''] You can''t export devices as partitions for HVM guests; you need to change the hda1 to an hda... Have you tried that? Cheers, Mark On Monday 12 March 2007 03:51, Kaushik Barde wrote:> Thanks guys. > > But no luck.
