zfs discuss - Jun 2009 - power disruption

I was in the process of installing a new disk. 
zpool attach -f rpool old new

then I was supposed to do 
installgrub stage1 stage2 new

but I went away and there had been a power disruption and now the BE will not
load at all. I have an older be which works (2008.11 and knows nothing about the
new disk)

is there a way to fix things? i cannot unmount the current/old BE while it is
active.
