Our company standard is sles. All my xen servers are sles10sp2, but I have some usb needs so I''m looking at sles11 so I can run xen 3.4. Xen 3.4 appears to be available for sles11. I tried to get xen 3.4 on sles10sp2, and although I did eventually get it installed I had some other issues and it didn''t seem very clean. Now I''ve installed sles11 but I''m having some issues. In the past I would run sles10 at init3 and use vnc for getting to X to run virt-manager. They''ve changed some things with sles11. When you pick xen during instal it doesn''t install X. When I tried to load vnc I obviously couldn''t get gnome window manager in my vnc session. So I added gnome, but I''m still not able to get it to load in my vnc session. Furthermore, I ran sax2 -a and rcxdm start on the server and all I get on the server console is a blank screen. I even reinstalled the server and added gnome during the setup. Unfortunately I still get the same blank screen. The hardware is an HPDL360G6. Maybe it just isn''t supported? Any suggestions? I would love to move to centos because I think I would have a lot fewer issues, but I don''t think I can because of our "standard". Any help is appreciated. If you choose Virtualization Server, no X is installed, and installing GNOME won''t do either... you have to install the entire X susbsystem. I believe, and I could be mistaken because it''s been forever since I did any work with SLES and Xen, but the work-around we got from SuSE was to install a regular server system, NOT the Virtualization Server option or whatever it''s called, and then add Xen in after install via YaST. That gets you a full GUI system and Xen. Hi James, I am using atmost Xming on my laptop to get X forwarded and so I do not need a running X on the server, and you can than tunnel VNC sessions per vm base through ssh and connect directly to the hosts if you have a slower connection or other issues with X (running VNC client in X). I hope it helps. Best Regards Udo Attila Fischer _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

Re: [Xen-users] Anyone running SLES11?
Hi there, I haven''t touch SUSE Linux Enterprise Server before. My only experiences with SUSE were OpenSUSE 10.1 64-bit and OpenSUSE 11.1 32-bit, all desktop oriented. I could help you setup SLES11 + Xen without any fee, but there''s no guarantee of getting everything to work as I am still learning. -- Mr. Teo En Ming (Zhang Enming) Dip(Mechatronics) BEng(Hons)(Mechanical Engineering) Alma Maters: (1) Singapore Polytechnic (2) National University of Singapore My Primary Blog: http://teo-en-ming-aka-zhang-enming.blogspot.com My Secondary Blog: http://enmingteo.wordpress.com My Youtube videos: http://www.youtube.com/user/enmingteo Email: space.time.universe@gmail.com Mobile Phone (Starhub Prepaid): +65-8369-2618 Street: Bedok Reservoir Road Country: Singapore On Tue, Nov 10, 2009 at 1:43 AM, James Pifer <jep@obrien-pifer.com> wrote:> > Why don''t you use ssh with X11 forwarding?
