[Xen-users] Windows GPLPV Drivers - Development stopped?
Hi Everyone, I was just wondering if development of these has stopped? At a guess I assume the release of Xen Server on the 25th will offer an alternative. My guess would be that the release of XenServer will not offer an alternative. XenServer has always had drivers available, and they have always been proprietary, remember, they want you to use XenServer. While I can''t say so authoritatively, I am pretty sure development on the GPLPV drivers will continue until or unless James Harper decides he doesn''t want to mess with them anymore and no one else is willing to take over. Just a little slowly at the moment. I had to do a bit of a rewrite of part of the drivers to support a few extra features which has taken longer than expected. There was a bug that was causing total filesystem destruction under XP, and a few people have reported problems under 64 bit, so I''m not comfortable releasing binaries at this point. Re: [Xen-users] Windows GPLPV Drivers - Development stopped?
That''s a bit of a misstatement, Fajar (sorry, James :-) - Sun is not endorsing the drivers - a member of the Solaris Kernel Development group endorsed it in a post on one of the OpenSolaris forums. Hard to say whether or not that person is actually a Sun employee, and even if he is, I''m guessing you could find some fine print somewhere that would make disclaimers about the ''views expressed in this forum do not represent Sun Microsystems, etc.'' Don''t get me wrong, I''m not knocking the GPL PV drivers - I use them quite extensively myself - just saying that the referenced post does not amount to an endorsement by Sun. -Nick>>> "Fajar A.
