Hi all what kind of tools i can use for checking the performance of xen guests. In terms of memory, cpu and other resources so that i can decide on how many guest i can run on my server( i can size my server) thanks _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

What are you checking? Ram, cpu, hdd access and transmitions speed, smth? Actually I create a network traffic graphic, CPU utilization (With User, Nice, System, I/O Wait, SoftIRQ and IRQ Wait), Memory (Process, Buffer, Cached, Swap) and disk space per partition. I need to create more two graphs, Disk I/O and Temperature (this last only on dom0). SNMP and rrdtool is a nice combination and problably I will find soon more details to monitor close. The unique issue I find is graph the hypervisor CPU, Xen VPCU dynamic pin do stranges things here. -- Valter Douglas Lisbôa Jr. Sócio-Diretor Trenix - IT Solutions "Nossas Idéias, suas Soluções!" www.trenix.com.br contato@trenix.com.br Tel. +55 19 3402.2957 Cel. +55 19 9183.4244 _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

And xentop appears to diverge some times. -- Valter Douglas Lisbôa Jr. Sócio-Diretor Trenix - IT Solutions "Nossas Idéias, suas Soluções!" www.trenix.com.br contato@trenix.com.br Tel. +55 19 3402.2957 Cel. +55 19 9183.4244 _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

But like I said there are freesoftware solutions, Cacti and MRTG. I do not use this because we are creating a entire host/networking monitor system to assist my employees, and we are customizing so much that we abandon the idea to use some existing solution, our code comes from scratch. :-) Soon we will integrate this with IDS and perhaps some IA algorithms to discover flaws. In a not fair future (I hope) also will put extreme hardening for secure purposes too. -- Valter Douglas Lisbôa Jr. Sócio-Diretor Trenix - IT Solutions "Nossas Idéias, suas Soluções!" www.trenix.com.br contato@trenix.com.br Tel. +55 19 3402.2957 Cel. +55 19 9183.4244 _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

There is no cost to the hosted service. Register for an account, download and install a host agent in Xen. Quick and easy. Agent communications are secured with digital certs. You will be able to get performance info, and lots of system information down to the process and communication levels. May be overkill for what you want. I should disclose I work for the company, if you need more info send me an email. There are lots of other choices out there you may want to consider including Nagios, Fiveruns, Spiceworks, Heroix...
