Rather than switching it would probably be more productive to describe the errors you''re encountering. If you''re new to Xen it doesn''t matter which distro you use as there will almost certainly be something to confuse you. I''ve used Xen 3.x on Debian Sarge, and on Debian unstable (sid) without any real issues, as described in the pieces here: http://www.debian-administration.org/tag/xen Steve -- # xen-tools 2.3 released today http://xen-tools.org/ _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

There are so many "unofficial" install packages for Debian, Ubuntu, Etc that the novelty of xen-via-yum has really worn off for people. Have you tried backports.org ?> can be simpler with centos? redhat enteprise?I think you''ll find Debian makes things easier once you get past the point of installing, in particular where networking and bridging are concerned. Can you shed some light on why Debian isn''t working for you? I''ve always found sarge to be the best host for Xen. Problem is that sometimes virtual machines hangs and many networking problem. BTW, I''ll try to follow all your how-to and reports on it.. I''d suggest using them in preference to unstable, especially in production use. For my own personal use at home all my machines run unstable and the current Xen packages in sid. However there I don''t care so much if things break for a few days/weeks at a time. (Like today, when "xen-utils-3.0" seems to have become uninstallable. My existing instances are running, but with no "xm" command I can''t control them or create new ones!) I have great luck with backports , helping sarge see newer stuff and (semi) painless xen installs. It really depends on circumstances. If I do a sarge install and only a third of my hardware was discovered, I may head right for xen unstable, really depends on what''s at hand. And, as someone mentioned, there is always Ubuntu. I avoid non GNU flavors for anything in production that I care about, unless its a living experiment with something unstable. Cheers! -Tim On Wed, 2006-08-16 at 14:42 +0200, Stefano Cislaghi wrote:> 2006/8/16, Tim Post <tim.post@netkinetics.net>: > > There are so many "unofficial" install packages for Debian, Ubuntu, Etc > > that the novelty of xen-via-yum has really worn off for people. So with backports all work, my server boots... but my virtual machines hangs many times without reasons... Now, got a fresh install. I''ll try to install again with howto of Steve.... I''ll report tomorrow.. Stefano _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
