I''m here flipping through Linux Journal looking for server vendors. I had the bright idea of adding a tab for every server vendor advertised in the magazine. I got to about 10 and then stopped. I know they just recently advertised Aberdeen in "Ultimate Linux Server" as a good vendor, but they practically have no warranty on parts. Sad to say... we can''t wait for socket F, and the current Opterons don''t support HVM. Xeon is looking like the way to go... But I would prefer to buy AMD since HVM seem to "just work" with AMD. We plan to run 10+ servers and there''s no Athlon 64 X2 boards with more than only 8GB of RAM offered at the places I''ve been looking (gamepc.com). Anyone know/recommend a great place to buy? Lost and confused. Thanks for any input. ~Rob _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
I know that you said you wanted AMD processors, but Dell''s PowerEdge line has a couple servers that support HVM domains. I know that the PE 850 has support for VT and I''d bet that the PE 1950 and PE 2950 do as well, as they are their new server line using the Xeon 5000 and 5100 series. A call to their Tech Support could verify that information. _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
Dell''s new PowerEdge servers (including PE1950, PE2950) have very nasty, wired nic1, nic2 switching order problem with onboard nics. Making it work with Xen is almost impossible. I''ve been struggling with the problem for over more than a week. This problem is verified with different Linux distributions and confirmed by Dell. Until Dell fixes the problem, you would not want to get into this mess. Re: [Xen-users] Recomended Vendors for HVM servers?.
Would the addition of a NIC card (and dissabling the embedded NIC ) theoretically take care of that? I''m scheduled to speak with a Dell representative about the PE2950 today. Thank god you replied today and not tomorrow. Simon Gao wrote:> Dell''s new PowerEdge servers (including PE1950, PE2950) have very nasty, > wired nic1, nic2 switching order problem with onboard nics.
