Xen users - Jul 2006 - switchroot failure

I''ve hit a bit of a roadblock getting a domU operating under FC4.  The
last
few lines on the console are:

Creating /dev
Starting udev
Loading jbd.ko module
Loading ext3.ko module
Creating root device
Mounting root filesystem
kjournald starting.  Commit interval 5 seconds
EXT3-fs: mounted filesystem with ordered data mode.
Switching to new root
unmounting old /proc
unmounting old /sys
exec of init (/sbin/init) failed!!!: 2
Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!

dom0 is operating fine:
>xm list
Name                              ID Mem(MiB) VCPUs State  Time(s)
Domain-0                           0     1065     2 r-----  3707.7

Relevant info in the domU config file is:

kernel = "/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.16-xen"
ramdisk = "/boot/initrd-domU"
disk = [ ''file:/xen/XEN-1,sdb1,w'' ]
root = "/dev/sdb1 rw"

fstab entry in the domU image is:
/dev/sdb1               /                       ext3    defaults        1 1


This doesn''t appear to be a module or initrd problem as the console
indicates that the root filesystem mounted ok but something is stopping the
box from successfully executing init.

Any input greatly appreciated.

You might start with ...
root = "/dev/sdb1"
extra = "ro"
