How recent is your hardware? You need virtualisation-capable hardware to run Windows on Xen. Some recent Intel hardware has it, but it hasn''t filter down to most consumers yet... Hello everyone. I am VERY new to XEN, but know about things like VMWare. I am looking for a replacement for VMWare and was told that XEN was much better. I am needing to run M$ WinXP in a virtual machine running inside my Ubuntu 5.10 Linux machine. From what I have read so far, it seems that this can be done, but I have not come across any documentation on how to do so. Can anyone point me in the right direction? _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
Ok, I just found out that I have a 800 series Dual-core that does NOT support virt. So, I am guessing that this is just not going to work and that I will have to stick with some other solution - correct? Some possible choices are: *run QEmu on Xen (free, but you can''t run the Qemu accelerator module, so it''ll be slow) *run Win4Lin pro on Xen (they''ll offer support for Win4Lin on Xen but it''ll cost you. Not you if there''s an option to use it without the support contract). *Run the windows domains on a VMware Server system (it''s the free version of GSX, currently in beta...) and either use that instead of, or as well as Xen. *run VMware ESX (uber expensive!)
