Hi, I thinking of changing my ext partitions to ReiserFS as I keep reading it''s a lot faster. I''m running Xen 3 and want to make sure there are no issues before I spend a lot of time installing everything. Thanks in advance. I decided to use xfs because making some tests the results show that it is faster than reiserfs and jfs. -- Lucas de Souza Santos - 7F8050A6 @ http://subkeys.pgp.net _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
I''ve used both reiserfs and ext3 with Xen versions 2.x & 3.0; it''s largely worked OK, but in a couple of instances with unclean shutdowns, my filesystem with reiserfs has been completely trashed - running reiserfsck left everything in /lost+found. I run these on top of lvm2, dunno if that''s significant. The upshot is that I use ext3 exclusively now. I''ve had the exact same experience and switched to ext3 for the exact same reason. (Actually, I''m running xfs on some boxes where I need better delete performance for large files and such, but otherwise I''m sticking to ext3 ;-?..) _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
Molle Bestefich :> Paul Laws wrote: > >>my filesystem with reiserfs has been completely trashed - running >>reiserfsck left everything in /lost+found.I''ve had good only good experience with Reiser fsck for the last four years or so, however, there''s a gotcha in that you should never store a Reiser filesystem image on a Reiser filesystem, fsck gets confused and can eat both filesystems in that case. So if you want to use Reiser with Xen, be sure to use separate partitions (usually a better idea anyway). I use LVM2 volumes for each of the partitions in the domUs - so I don''t think it''s this problem I''ve hit. I''ve used reiser3 for years now, with no problems since it stabilised (2.4.whatever). It''s only on Xen that I''ve had this problem, and a few times, too. It made me switch to ext3, which I use nowhere else.
