[Wine] Frequent "Out of memory" issues with DX9 games under Gentoo
Since I switched to Gentoo Linux, I have had multiple issues of DX9 games crashing after about 15-20 minutes of playing because of "out of memory" issues. I do not recall having so many problems with that when I was running Wine under Ubuntu. My config: Q6600 4 GB Ram Nvidia 8800GT Gentoo X64 Latest wine-git as of Feb 8 2009 I have reported one of them as a bug: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17140 but after trying some other games (the Witcher and Dark Messiah of might and magic for example) and seeing that it seems recurrent, I am wondering if something is wrong with my configuration and I would like to have some input from you guys. I have also read this : http://wiki.jswindle.com/index.php/Debugging_Wine#Out_of_Memory , but since I am not a developer I am not sure how to "cure" my wine installation. Here is a tailed console output for Dark messiah of MM, if it can be useful anyhow: http://pastebin.ca/1331335 . If you have any suggestions of things to try / test / report, please tell me. Thanks!

Basically you are hitting Wine its virtual memory issues. Try to limit the amount of video memory in the registry to 128MB or so for now. Further there is possibly some Nvidia bug around related to this but I haven't heard back from NV about this yet.
