Install Wine's fake-windows directory in different place
By default Wine installs its fake-windows part into $HOME. I want rather have it on a separate partition, that I mount as /wine. How can I do this? What I have found was: http://wiki.jswindle.com/index.php/Advanced_Wine_User_Information#Changing_the_location_of_Wine.27s_installation My steps so far: - Installed Wine with Synaptic - # wineprefixcreate --prefix /wine - I find the fake directory where I want it! - WINEPREFIX=/wine export WINEPREFIX - winecfg - still all fine up to he...

Frequent "Out of memory" issues with DX9 games under Gentoo
...how_bug.cgi?id=17140 but after trying some other games (the Witcher and Dark Messiah of might and magic for example) and seeing that it seems recurrent, I am wondering if something is wrong with my configuration and I would like to have some input from you guys. I have also read this : http://wiki.jswindle.com/index.php/Debugging_Wine#Out_of_Memory , but since I am not a developer I am not sure how to "cure" my wine installation. Here is a tailed console output for Dark messiah of MM, if it can be useful anyhow: http://pastebin.ca/1331335 . If you have any suggestions of things to try /...

Launch Linux version of Firefox from Lotus Notes 7?
hopefully it's not bad form to cross post from comp.emulators.ms-windows.wine to wine-users....I apologize if so. ---------------------------------------------------------------- I'm running Notes 7.0.2 and have tried 2 versions of wine so far (0.9.30, 0.9.29). I'm going to try some in the 0.9.19-0.9.21 range since those seem to take care of another problem I've got, but my gut

windows programms starting linux programms
Hi. I have got the following problem: I'd like to use the windows version of firefox in linux. When I download a file and tell firefox which application to use with it, the application opens fine. But the path of the file given to it by firefox is in windows style (C:\...). Is there a (easy) way to tell wine to covert the path to linux style? If yes, where can I read more about it?

getwinegit.sh 0.32 released!
One more Version! It's time to test this script until it is one of the last versions. I don't want to spend more time into this so I desided to soonly quit this project. Here the Changes since 0.31: 0.32 No Changes to Functitonality, but cool stuff :) - Better Trap-handling - Nicer Sleeper-function (I love it) - No output to the shell but only the ones by getwinegit.sh blackbox? no,

Re: Server Requirements
...L4) for IBM zSeries/s390? Simple answer: no. Long answer: if you have the sources for an application written in C or C++ for Windows, you may be able to recompile it for Linux for zSeries using Winelib, although some extra work may be required to finish porting winelib to zSeries; see http://wiki.jswindle.com/index.php?title=Installing_Wine This would be a job of several weeks for a C/C++ developer. - Dan -- Wine for Windows ISVs: http://kegel.com/wine/isv

Fwd: Monitoring Parallel Port
Hi everyone I am trying to get my scanner working under linux and to develop a driver I need to capture the data. I have downloaded wine-0.9.2-mdk.i586.rpm and installed it. The wine developers guide (section 3.1) mentions setting read and write values in the config file. The new version of wine does not have a config file, so I would be grateful if someone would let me know how to set read

C:\WINDOWS\system32 vs ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32
I am a new user to Ubuntu and wine, and I need to copy some files from C:\WINDOWS\system32 to my ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32. Ubuntu is my sole OS. So my question... where in the world do I find the C:\ folder if Ubuntu does not sort directories that way? Also, is there something more than a FAQ, maybe a for-dummies part of the site I can look at to answer questions like this? I've had a

Disable networking
I saw the notes about blocking networking on the advanced wine user information wiki (http://wiki.jswindle.com/index.php/Advanced_Wine_User_Information#Blocking_Network_access_to_Software_running_on_Wine) and I thought I'd try to come up with something a bit easier than running the application as a particular user: (add the "nonet" group) Code: # groupadd nonet (setup the iptables ru...

Easily changing directory where program files should be installed to by default?
Dear Wine users, installing a Windows program the program?s installer should look up some registry entry(?) (ProgramFiles [2]) what folder to use to install the program files into. For Englisch installations this is normally `C: \Program Files` in my home directory. I have small space left in my home directory, so I would like to install the program files in a different location, for example

Re: Winelib application linking with non-system Windows DLL - ho
...ly two options. The easiest one is to dynamically load the dll using LoadLibrary and load the functions you need using GetProcAddress. Another way is to create a dummy dll against which you can link. You need winedump and winebuild for it. This process is documented at an external site: http://wiki.jswindle.com/index.php/WineLib#Calling_a_Native_Windows_dll_from_Linux (see the libvendor part)

How to set compatibility mode from the command line in wine?
I am always deleting the wine dir, and i'd like to keep a few applications elsewhere. One of these apps (interstate '76) needs compatibility mode window 98. Anyway, if a solution also works on windows, wonderful (though the solutions i've seen required installation of something, and that's no good for me since i want the game portable), but if it only works one wine, that is ok.
