[Wine] Possible recent bug disables sound in wine - Ubuntu Studio
I have sound problems in Ubuntu Studio, starting yesterday. These may be caused by a Ubuntu bug, but I wanted to run them by wine users and see if anyone else is having a similar problem. My configuration: I use Ubuntu Studio. I installed it clean this morning, with default options. Then I purged pulseaudio (because pulseaudio does not work with wine) asoundconf list shows the following Names of available sound cards: Intel Generic (this is the card I use) set-default-card Generic Installed wine. Wine shows the following: alsa-driver MIDI Out Devices: Midi Through Port-0 MIDI In Devices: Midi Through Port-0 Mixer Devices: HDA Intel HDA-Audio Generic Installed Dragon NaturallySpeaking. DNS does not recognize sound from either card. Ubuntu bug #350160 was filed by someone else, and I added my information to that. Susan Cragin

You might also need to add the Alsa driver->use direct hw key in regedit. Check the registry wiki. Purging pulse probably isn't a good idea. Killall pulseaudio = good.

Discovered in the process that soundcards also not recognized when using linux/audacity. So my sound is just entirely out.

[Wine] Possible recent bug disables sound in wine - Ubuntu Studio
There was apparently a bug in the Ubuntu Studio daily builds of Friday-Sunday that interfered with sound when pulseaudio was purged. It affected all applications, not just wine. This situation no longer happens as of 30-Mar-2009 daily build.
