MB soundcards and PCI soundcards
...tream audio using icecast and ices. But using the PCI soundcard with the onboard card disabled, no input is detected. I have tested this so far on only RH9 with the latest updates. Has anyone else come across this, and if so, how did they fix this? Not a big issue, but I would like to use the nicer soundcards rather than the built-in cards. Thanks. MB soundcards and PCI soundcards
...d the correct device to use? depending on your installation, the onboard sound chip might be set to be the default device. btw, for all questions related to linux audio, may i invite you to the linux-audio-user list at http://linuxaudiodev.org/subscribelau.php3 ? many people there use multiple soundcards (i've been doing so without problems for years), and will be able to help you with distro-specific stuff (i don't run rh, so i can't help you there.) since this is a cross-platform list, os-specific driver issues won't be of much use to many readers anyway... regards, jörn btw...

ices2 + pid-file (was: ices2 + stdin + metadata)
Ok, so i have to know the PID of ices to send the update-signal. I've added this to my ices.xml: <pidfile>/home/www/bin/ices.pid</pidfile> (directly under the node <ices>) I thought i've seen this somewhere in the manual. However, when i start ices, no pid-file is created :-/ Is this the right way? <p>----- Original Message ----- From: "Karl Heyes"

Isa Soundcard under CentOS 5
Hello, Under Fedora Core 6 I used to integrate the soundcard of my notebook with modprobe snd-opl3sa2. Now, after changing my system to CentOS 5, I could not find this module for my isa soundcard any more. # ls -al /lib/modules/2.6.18-8.1.1.el5/kernel/sound/isa/ insgesamt 24 drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 27. Voice Modem + Soundcard Driver
The problem with using Voice Modems is that they fall into two categories: 1) Hardware Modems which only have half-duplex transmission of voice 2) Soft/Win/Lin modems which are proprietry and don't have asterisk drivers Please shoot down this recipe before I waste any time trying to acheive it: Rationalisation: ---------------- In Australia and I assume other places, there is no

USB headsets?
Hi, What USB headset would you recomend? We have some laptop soundcards that are really bad and I would be glad if you could share your experiences when changing to a USB headset instead of using the built in soundcard in your computer. Thanks! Regards, Jan

wine 1.1.4 and 2nd soundcard (alsa)
Moin, I am using a kind of VoIP Software (Echolink) that run perfekt with the build in soundcard. But I want to use my headset, that appears as soundcard 1 (hw:1.0). I can choose the soundcard in Echolink (default, external and system default), but this goes to the build in card independent from this setting. Can I configure wine to use the 2nd card? Or can I configure wine to use the 2nd

Strange soundcard problem w/4.2
Hi there, I'm trying to repurpose an unused machine (athlon XP 3000+) for my young daughter to use. It's on a motherboard with a VIA KT880 chipset and VIA integrated soundcard (VIA 8237). The card seems to be detected during boot time and shows up in the system log, but when I try to actually use the sound card within Gnome, there's no sound. The device is detected, but

The output of all the Winamp's can be sent to the same soundcard. We will just keep the sound

Sound with headphones on: Streamaudio perfect but youtube and system-config-soundcard silent
This afternoon, I bought a pair of ear plugs (the large flat kind that hook onto my ears). Plugged them in to test and they work perfectly. I'm listening to streamaudio.com as I type this. However, when I tried to watch a youtube.com video (my wife exercise dancing) just silence. She had the same video on to test and the sound was fine on her box. Then, I tried system-config-soundcard and

Getting programs to detect my soundcard
I have a problem, that some programs don't detect my soundcard. Sound works fine in others, but they don't detect it, and refuse to start because of it. Usually the crash logs tell me to make sure that the sound card is enabled, and when listing the hardware, everything else is correctly listed, except the sound card , which shows like: Code: Sound : () How can I configure wine, so

Asterisk - Soundcard - Recording?
Greetings- I've got a curious project that I could use some input on. I'd like to use Asterisk to record some audio channels via USB 'soundcard'. When audio passes through the soundcard, Asterisk should grab that audio channel (CONSOLE?), and write it to a wav file. I'm perfectly competent with the dialplan portion of the recording, but I don't know about the following:

ALSA: Have to start Rayman3 while soundcard is in use
With wine 0.9.49 and the versions before (.deb files for Kubuntu Dapper) I have to occupy my soundcard to have sound in Rayman3. After the intro the sound is reinitialized again for the main game and the device mustn't be released before it. My soundcard is a C-Media 8738 and oss is turned off in winecfg.

Soundcard software...
Hi, I have an M-Audio soundcard. All of the software on the driver CD has .exe file extensions and I can't get any of it to load in Debian Lenny. Will WINE allow me to install my soundcard driver software? Cheers, JOn.

Hi guys I'm at a loss in getting ./configure to complete successfully with asterisk 1.4.6 on Fedora 7 x86_64, as it complains about no termcap support, even though it is installed (see below). Any ideas where to go next? checking for ZT_DIAL_OP_CANCEL in zaptel/zaptel.h... no configure: error: *** termcap support not found [root at mail3 asterisk-1.4.6]# rpm -qv termcap

Two soundcards. Use both with wine. Problem
...worked without special configuration. But it was an older version of wine, ubuntu and ultrastar and now it seems not to work. The problem is that in the "recording" configuration menu of the game there is only one soundcard called "default" (my integrated Realtek). But I have 2 soundcards installed in my ubuntu system :/. I'm using ALSA as Wine sound (you can see in the screenshot). What can I do? System: AMD64, 512MB, nForce motherboard with Realtek sound integrated. Dummy soundcard driver for Windows (OT)
We want to setup multiple streams using multiple copies of Winamp/SQRSoft crossfader/OddCast. We are guessing that somewhere between 16 and 24 streams may be supported on one dual-processor PC. However, rather than sending the output of all the streams to a soundcard (which may cause problems?), I thought it should be possible to send the output to a dummy soundcard driver. I was sure one

Correctly setting up sound with Intel High Definition ICH7
Hi, Earlier this day I started a thread about Skype not working with outgoing sound. Now I wonder if it's not a problem with my soundcard. I had a vague suspicion about this, but since it's way off the original topic, I decided to start a new thread about this. Here's what the soundcard looks like: [root at grossebertha etc]# lspci | grep -i audio 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel
