Hello, the Barracuda ES.2 disks from Seagate are available in a SAS-version and would seem to be a perfect fit for J4000 arrays. Does anyone have any experience with these disks? Is it possible to install disks in the "Disk Drive Filler Panels" which are delivered with the J4000? Cheers, Philipp

The J4000 requires an "interposer" for sata disks which provides a dual path to the drives. I realize these are SAS drives, but they aren''t dual-pathed. And I don''t think the blank trays will hold a drive. AIUI, Sun is the only place to get drives for this chassis. Will PS: There''s an earlier discussion of this model here: http://www.mail-archive.com/zfs-discuss at opensolaris.org/msg17506.html

Common Array Manager lets you know that "My god, this isn''t a Sun Disk!" but due to the simplicity of the JBOD itself the host can still make perfect use of the drive (at least, it can so far in our still somewhat limited testing.) The biggest challenge here is to order a J4400 with 24 air management sleds. :P -- Regards, Joshua M.
