[dtrace-discuss] Foolproof way of getting hostid on Solaris 10
Dear Experts, Is there a foolproof way of getting hostid on solaris 10 sparc? I am asking this because i have seen Dtrace scripts which allow to change hostid. I want this because i want to tie down my application to specific host and do not want my client to re-use it on other machine just by changing hostid. Thanks, -- This message posted from opensolaris.org

In general, I''d suggest not even attempting to do what you''re apparently trying to do. As a customer, I get highly annoyed when some node-locked software fails after hardware upgrade, and I''ll do just about anything to repair the situation. Usually, that procedure involves not buying such software in the first place. -- James Carlson, Solaris Networking <james.d.carlson at sun.com> Sun Microsystems / 1 Network Drive 71.232W Vox +1 781 442 2084 MS UBUR02-212 / Burlington MA 01803-2757 42.496N Fax +1 781 442 1677

We had a vendor wanting to charge us US$30k for moving to a new license server when the old one died (generation of new license file, manpower for re-install et. al). We hacked up an LD_PRELOAD solution in about 30 minutes to get around that. -- Just me, Wire ... Blog: <prstat.blogspot.com>

(And I remember having multiple vendors all with their own FlexLM license daemons as part of the package and the general issues with interoperability of different versions). Casper
