What can make G.729a codec hostid change?
After upgrading my small test system from Debian Etch->Lenny via a complete reinstall, I find my g729 hostid has changed. Same machine, same CPU, same NIC! It doesn't seem reasonable that I have to burn my one "no-hassle" re-registration for a simple OS upgrade. The README only says that hostid is based on MAC addresses of all NICs, but that doesn't seem to be true. Does

automatic forced zpool import with unmatched hostid
Hi, since hostid is stored in the label, "zpool import" failed if the hostid dind''t match. Under certain circonstances (ldom failover) it means you have to manually force the zpool import while booting. With more than 80 LDOMs on a single host it will be great if we could configure the machine back to the old behavior where it didn''t failed, maybe with a /etc/sytem

Opensolaris domU HostID Changes on Every Boot
I''m running an Opensolaris domU on Xen with a Linux dom0. Xen is version 3.3.1, I''m running the Genunix.org build 130 of Opensolaris. I have the uuid defined in my domU configuration file, but this doesn''t seem to affect the fact that the hostid is different every single time the domU boots. For some reason this doesn''t affect the root ZFS pool, which imports

facter''s uniqueid is not unique
I have been storing the output of facter in a database with the assumption that uniqueid was actually unique, until I found that it is the same for a handful of my machines. It appears that uniqueid is set from the output of hostid. I checked into hostid and it gets its value from gethostid(). The following link, http://www.opengroup.org/onlinepubs/009695399/functions/gethostid.html, states,

Can''t access my data
Hi Folks.. I have/had a zpool containing one filesystem. I had to change my hostid and needed to import my pool, (I''ve done his OK in the past). After the import the mount of my filesystem failed. # zpool import homespool cannot mount ''homespool/homes'': mountpoint or dataset is busy The data seems it might still exist, (correct amount of used space is reported),

Compile error
A bit off topic, but having trouble again with the 64-bit libs when trying to compile this short fortran code to build a shared object. Can anyone offer an explaination of what is meant by the relocation bit, and how to fix it? I've tried the -fPIC, but apparently I either didn't have it in the right place or it does not work. Be glad to take this offline if somone could help me.

License manager
Has anyone successfully incorporated a Win95 app that uses FlexLM license manager on a Samba file system. I would be extremely interested in talking with you as we are trying to install Parametric Technology's ProEngineer on our Samba file server. We do have a copy of the Unix version of the license manager, but I am not sure how I can get the Win95 client to talk to it. Any and all

Cronjob and sudo
I need to remove empty files out of a directory that are over 6 hours old so I created this script and put it in cron.hourly. #!/bin/sh cd /var/list sudo -u matt find /var/list -mmin +360 -empty -user matt -exec rm {} \; I want to run it as matt rather than root for just an added bit of safety. Problem is I get this. "sudo: sorry, you must have a tty to run sudo" Is there another

ZFS file system create/export question
Hi, I am wandering HOW ZFS ensures that a storage pool isn''t imported by two machines at one time? Does it stamp the disks the hostID or hostName? Below is a snipplet from the ZFS Admin Guide. It appears that this can be overwritten with import -f. importing a pool that is currently in use by another system over a storage network can result in data corruption and panics as both

Search Algorithm Used for Keyword Search
Dear Sir, I'm doing a literature survey on search engines. As Xapian is open source, I think I can get the information required by me.  I assume that your system builds a list of keywords and tags to every keyword the documents where it can be found. My questions are as follows: 1. What is the search algorithm used for searching the list of keywords that your search engine has?. Is it the

My 500-gig ZFS is gone: insufficient replicas, corrupted data
Hi, I''m running FreeBSD 7.1-PRERELEASE with a 500-gig ZFS drive. Recently I''ve encountered a FreeBSD problem (PR kern/128083) and decided about updating the motherboard BIOS. It looked like the update went right but after that I was shocked to see my ZFS destroyed! Rolling the BIOS back did not help. Now it looks like that: # zpool status pool: tank state: UNAVAIL status:

Where do you get your Linux FlexLM server? It's not that you are really deciding when you buy a software.

ZFS Recovery: What do I try next?
I would like to pick the brains of the ZFS experts on this list: What would you do next to try and recover this zfs pool? I have a ZFS RAIDZ1 pool named bank0 that I cannot import. It was composed of 4 1.5 TiB disks. One disk is totally dead. Another had SMART errors, but using GNU ddrescue I was able to copy all the data off successfully. I have copied all 3 remaining disks as images using

raidz pool metadata corrupted nexanta-core->freenas 0.7->nexanta-core
I made a bad judgment and now my raidz pool is corrupted. I have a raidz pool running on Opensolaris b85. I wanted to try out freenas 0.7 and tried to add my pool to freenas. After adding the zfs disk, vdev and pool. I decided to back out and went back to opensolaris. Now my raidz pool will not mount and got the following errors. Hope someone expert can help me recover from this error.
