low bitrate sounding better? (20k-30k)
...orbis would have much-improved low-bitrate quality. Wondering - true? Details? ETA? At CD Baby all lo-fi soundclips are still in the SFERA format*. At 20k bitrates, they sound GREAT which is why I stick with it, but I'd much rather switch them ALL over to OGG if there was a way to make 20k-30k sound as good as RealAudio G2 does at that bitrate. Go listen to the 20k birate clips at CD Baby. (http://www.cdbaby.com/new <--- good starting point.) Let me know if some beta/CVS versions of OGG encoders can make 20k sound that good yet? I'd love to do the switch, and help promote ogg...

accelerating matrix multiply
I am using R to multiply some large (30k x 30k double) matrices on a 64 core machine (xeon phi). I added some timers to src/main/array.c to see where the time is going. All of the time is being spent in the matprod function, most of that time is spent in dgemm. 15 seconds is in matprod in some code that is checking if there are NaNs. &g...

Dovecot and FTS experiment
Hello, I'm trying to experiment with Dovecot and Solr server. I have >30k email addresses that I want to index to speed up searching and save IOPS on mail servers. For now - I'm doing some experiments and I'm testing how it is working. I'm thinking about adding one additional server with Solr and configure all mail servers to use that server. I have some q...

Apache or lighttp for Ror/2003server?
160,000 pages 99% static, only minor stuff done in rail (search, contact us, etc.) windows server 2003 Ror 1.0 Currently 30K Hits /day on IIS. Apache or Lighttp? Fast_CGI seems kinda slow with a 2003/Apache configuration. The only thing I''ll get rid of for sure is IIS. -Cedric -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

copying from Win to Linux
Hi, I'm about to migrate a lot of files from a windows server to a new, shiny samba-server. I just got a small problem : What is the best way to do this? I'e tried rsync, but it croaks on some files with names like "somethign :some.eml" the same does cp. What I'm wondering about, is has anyone else had these problems, and if so, how did you solve them? Do you have a

merge large matrices
Dear List I have two large matrices A and B. Both have the same dimensions, let's say 20k x 30k. About half the cells of B are missing. Now I'm looking for an efficient way to merge them, so that the missing values in B are replaced by the corresponding values of A. Matrix A [,1] [,2] [,3] [1,] 1 2 3 [2,] 4 5 6 merged with Matrix B [,1] [,2] [,3] [1,] 10 NA NA [2,] NA 50 60 equals...

NetApp NFS vs. ZFS and NFS for Maildir
Hi, I'm evaluating to switch from NetApp to a ZFS appliance (like Qsan). Our setup is Dovecot, Maildir for email storage and NFS to share mailboxes (more than 30k users) across POP/IMAP and MX servers. NetApp NFS works fine also under high load but have some limitation for inode numbers per Volume and is expensive (but recently their prices have dropped). ZFS, I read, suggest to create many small Raid Group to increase IOPS, but this configuration (N Ra...

long delays with file enumeration & listing in large data storage environment
After joining a Samba server to domain using either Winbind or using ADBridge (PBIS), enumeration time of listing files from windows file explorer for that share is roughly (9) seconds for a folder containing 30k files consisting of both large (upto 15GB in size) and small size files (as low as KB's). Intitially, without setting logging to "0" and disabling smb max server protocol in smb.conf (which is now defaulting to smb3_11), listing of these files would take up to 45 seconds. So we have a...

Maildir over NFS
...transaction going over NFS doesn't seem the smart thing to do. So question I have for the dovecot team, does running Maildir over NFS work well? Or would you recommend that all user mail folders be stored locally on the mail server when using Maildir? We have about 3400 users, doing about 30k mail deliveries daily. Some users have 10's of thousands of mail messages in hundreds of mail folders. Thanks... -- C. J. Paging unit suggestions
We currently have an Asterisk system that is hooked up to our old paging speakers via sound card, plugged into two amps. Each amp drives up to 8 analog speakers in each warehouse (we have 2). Both warehouses are around 30k square feet. Both have a large number of printing presses. The computer system is that is running Asterisk is around 10 years old and starting to fail. I'm looking to replace both the system and hopefully move to a IP paging system, but wanted to reuse the current speakers. I'm looking...

Unshapeable traffic
Hello, Could somebody explain following issue ? I set up htb class on outgoing external interface to shape p2p upload traffic. I limited it to 4Mbit/s. I also set up iptables counters chains in FORWARD chain to calculate traffic generated by p2p and others. While tc stats show that p2p shaping class keep defined 4Mbit traffic, iptables counters show me that p2p traffic exceed traffic to 150%

Max calls per box
Hi, We have a requirement to build a cluster that can handle 30k calls. The system is going to play one of 15,000 sound files. In the past we had no issue with Asterisk doing a few hundred calls. When we went above that Asterisk melted (this is going back quite a few years). FreeSwitch ended up doing the trick. Does anyone have experience with recent versions of...
