Job Description
Our Operations group is looking for an experienced Lead Operations
Developer to execute upon a comprehensive plan for automation of the
Operations infrastructure and subsystems necessary to deliver our
forthcoming world-class CDN offering. You will be responsible for
tying together various industry standard open source tools (e.g.
Nagios, Cacti, etc.) while automating basic and repetitive Operations
tasks with a particular emphasis on the highly dynamic nature of our
backend environment which is composed predominately of virtualized
machines. To be a successful candidate, you will need to demonstrate
an expert knowledge of sound design and development practices with an
emphasis on scalability and ease of maintenance. You will also need to
have superior documentation skills. This position is a key member of
the Operations team with a large role to play in the ultimate success
of our offering. This position may require off hours calls on an ad-
hoc basis and may require overnight maintenance window participation
on occasion.
Essential Job Functions
* Analyze, study and design paths for tying together various
Operations tools and technologies using industry accepted practices or
API design methodologies
* Develop necessary code and scripts for automation of Operations
tasks within the chosen Operations tools stack and framework
* Maintain and manage Operations source code within CVS or Subversion
* Work with the rest of Operations to coordinate staging and
production releases
* Document designs, internally developed API''s and standard
configurations
* Author release related artifacts such as release notes
* Assist with production issue diagnosis and resolution as necessary
* Develop automated testing scripts for API level unit testing where
possible
Requirements
* Solid development skills and experience in Perl or Python as well as
shell scripting
* Solid development skills and experience with PHP
* Experience with Ruby on Rails and Capistrano a huge plus
* Demonstrated knowledge and use of industry standard design patterns
and development practices
* Demonstrated proficiency with various *nix shells, text editors and
other system tools
* Sound documentation skills
* Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, dynamic, service environment
* Ability to interface and work with varied positions and levels of
technical knowledge both within the department and with other
departments in the company
* Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal
* 7-10 years relevant development experience in a service based
environment for at least 3 of those years
* Bachelor of Computer science or a similar discipline, or equivalent
experience
