How about if I sell you a copy of speex. Buy low, sell high seems like a good capitalist plan, and then you could feel good about using Speex! ...n't give him license to denigrate other efforts. Thomas Leigh asked a perfectly legitimate question and Jean-Marc's response reeked with politically based sarcasm. The little dirty secret that nobody dares talk about is that the open source religion was born out of anti-Microsoft, anti-Capitalist attitudes ... let's simply acknowledge the truth. Hello Jean: Big mistake!! One of the three things that a supplier should never discuss is politics ... that's business 101. Speex may be a very good product, but we will never use it because of the politics that you espouse ... some of us out here believe strongly in the free market. And we also know that monopolies can't exist because entrepreneurs will always exploit the

I believe "Free Market" is an American capitalist buzz word. Jean-Marc is Canadian. Regardless, I'm sure he strongly believes in free speech, which means he may humoristically dismiss Microsoft's product and make fun of it publicly. It's not going to affect Microsoft's sells, positively or negatively. There will always be those w...

Avoiding loops in creating a coinvestment matrix
Hi, I am working on a dataset in which a number of venture capitalists invest in a number of firms. What I am creating is an asymmetric matrix M in which m(ij) is the volume (sum) of coinvestments of VC i with VC j (i.e., how much has VC i invested in companies that VC j also has investments in). The output should look like the "coinvestments" matrix produc...

OS programmers tend to be more motivated by the intrinsic interestingness of a given piece of functionality than by someone else waving $$ in front of their eyes. This tendency seems verified by your complaint. Hopefully soon the wider capitalistic market will kick into gear, and the possibility of selling a lot of books will motivate people to write the documentation that you seek. In the interim, no amount of criticism of the Asterisk community (such as the remark that elicited my initial response) is likely to get you much beyond be...

...ted is to see the source, or at the very least to see the proposed API and be able to discuss this. I think you will find few friends here until you do. Otherwise I suggest you jazz up your benchmarks into a pseudo-technical paper with some 3d bar graphs and wave it under the noses of idiot venture capitalists until one of them throws some money at you. Good luck! Barry
