Lots of Rails programmers are chomping at the bit for that one... even if they have the first edition (quite a bit has changed). I wish I could copy & paste it here but I don''t really to want to HTMLize this mailing list post. The first book I recommended is, of course, the Agile Web Development with Rails. Excerpt from my page: Agile Web Development with Rails "The Rails Bible" If you prefer learning/reading/practicing/doing from a book than online, the first book I''d recommend is obviously the one that David Heinemeier Hansson (creator of Rails) wrote himself, Agile Web Development with Rails. Note that this book is excellent if you''re already a bit familiar with the Ruby programming language, or if you can follow the Ruby examples quickly (I hope so, since in my opinion Ruby is one of the easiest programming languages to learn). If you need help in Ruby, though, you may want to read one of the Ruby programming language tutorials (in Rails-related Resources section above, or the Ruby books below), or get the Rails book for you that wants to learn Ruby and Rails from scratch, Ruby on Rails Up and Running (see more below). The second edition of this book is available, you should get it rather than the first edition. The reason is pretty understandable: the Rails project is going in a very rapid pace, and there are cool new features in the newer Rails versions (1.2.x) that weren''t available at the time the first edition of the book was written. Don''t worry though, there are still plenty of documentation and samples on the Rails API documentation, the Rails wiki, and other places, to look for information about these new features.> > -- > Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/. > > > >-- Hendy Irawan Web: http://hendy.gauldong.net Mobile: +62 856 24889899 Yahoo Messenger: ceefour666 LinkedIn: http://www.linkedin.com/in/ceefour --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby on Rails: Talk" group. I got the PDF version.. enjoying every bit of it. I am however bit disappointed in certain aspects of the book but thats another story. Its a good buy. Buy the PDF and Burn a CD..put some label or something on the CD :-) Its much easier to carry then a 723 page thick book.. :-) Cheers On 12/12/06, Sarah Marris <rails-mailing-list-ARtvInVfO7ksV2N9l4h3zg@public.gmane.org> wrote:> > Taylor Strait wrote: > > As people have been saying, Agile Development with Rails 2nd Ed. is the > > hot book for Xmas: > > > > http://www.pragmaticprogrammer.com/titles/rails2/index.html > > any ideas where i can buy the 2nd edition or pre order it ? > > -- > Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/. > > > >--~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby on Rails: Talk" group. I would also recommend http://pragmaticprogrammer.com/titles/ruby/index.html as well. It''s a good idea to understand the language rails in written in. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby on Rails: Talk" group. The first book I would recommend is Agile web development 2nd edition. No doubt that it''s the bible and the best starting source. But after reading this book and starting coding you will find that you must learn ruby to understand Rails. Someone on IRC ( ruby on rails channel) recommend me and it was the inflexion point to start learning Rails. I''m talking about the book Ruby for Rails that explains the Ruby language from the Rails point of view.
