[ANN] Ublip.com is Now on Rails
Hi, I just wanted to take a minute to say thanks for all the valuable contributions to this list. This is definitely one of the most vibrant developer communities I''ve ever had the pleasure of being a part of. I come from a Macromedia background, having worked extensively with Flash and ColdFusion in the past. With that being said I''d like to announce a project that initially started on CF, but early on (~3 months ago) I made the call to switch to the wonderful world of Rails. The project is called Ublip (www.ublip.com) and allows users to easily share their favorite locations with friends and family. Currently this is done through a web browser, but we have a mobile client that runs on many different devices and allows users to "blip" where they are. Maybe in the not so distant future we''ll be able to be 100% Ruby and use the Ruby for Symbian libraries! If you could take a minute I''d appreciate any feedback you have to offer on Ublip. To make things interesting it would be even better if some of you would setup an account and add a "blip" where you spend time writing Rails code. All you need to do is create an account and then go to this map to add your blip: http://www.ublip.com/map/view/18. As you can tell by the map I''m located in Dallas, TX. If there are any Rails developers in the Dallas area that are interested in teaming up on the Ublip project please feel free to email me at your earliest convenience. I would love to discuss my plans for Ublip and see if there are other passionate entrepreneurs in Dallas using Rails. Thanks in advance and I look forward to your feedback. I also recently created a mapping tool in Rails: http://www.discovermachine.com My main goal is to let people share their GPS data. The site lets you upload data in GPX format. dennisbaldwin-Re5JQEeQqe8AvxtiuMwx3w@public.gmane.org wrote:> Hi, > > I just wanted to take a minute to say thanks for all the valuable > contributions to this list. Is there anyway I can render my own map (eg. shp) with these technologies? Thushan, Thanks for the email and yes you can create your own map and embed it in your blog or web page. Please feel free to contact me off-list and I''ll be glad to discuss how this works. We''re also working on RSS feeds for your favorite locations that can be pulled from Ublip.com and embedded on the map (ie Yahoo, Google, Microsoft) of your choice.
