Rails - Nov 2005 - [Semi-OT] Migrations (and/or versioning the db) for other languages

Hi all,

we''re working in a PHP (drupal) project where keeping in sync db
schemas and data among  developers is a key issue.

Is there some rough equivalent to Migrations for other languages, (or
other approaches, methods, best practices ... to the problem of
versioning the database) or is this a revolutionary Rails invention?
