samba - Dec 2009 - nmbd won't start

I am using Ubuntu Linux 9.10 (the latest). 
After I updated using the update manager the samba suite to the most current
packages, nmbd refuses to start.
I tried it manually, /usr/sbin/nmdb -D but it does nothing, (doesn't show up
in the process list). Could this update be broken?

Maybe you disabled NB?

Yes, karmic, and samba's working fine here.

Maybe you'll like to post your config (run testparm on it)
