samba - Oct 2006 - When trying to attach to Samba shares Forced to Authenticate from Windows XP box as guest

Hello,

  What is it I have to configure on the Windows XP box that allows me to
type in a username and a password when connecting to samba shares?  Right
now when I try to connect it always says GUEST and asks for a password.
Please help....thsi is killing me already.
