samba - Mar 2004 - Adding computer account - username could not be found

I'm trying to add a computer account as root and I am getting the
following error:

"the user name could not be found"

The root account appears in the smbpasswd file and I have access to the
server when I use the root credentials.

I have the following in the smb.conf file to add users:

add user script = /usr/sbin/useradd -d /dev/null -g machines -c "machine
account" -s /bin/false -M %u

I am running RH v3 and:

samba-client-3.0.0-14.3E
samba-3.0.0-14.3E
samba-common-3.0.0-14.3E
redhat-config-samba-1.0.16-1

My groupmap looks like:

System Operators (S-1-5-32-549) -> -1
Replicators (S-1-5-32-552) -> -1
Guests (S-1-5-32-546) -> -1
Domain Admins (S-1-5-21-1206063004-3966108128-1487570950-512) -> root
Domain Guests (S-1-5-21-1206063004-3966108128-1487570950-514) -> nobody
Power Users (S-1-5-32-547) -> -1
Print Operators (S-1-5-32-550) -> -1
Administrators (S-1-5-32-544) -> -1
Account Operators (S-1-5-32-548) -> -1
Domain Users (S-1-5-21-1206063004-3966108128-1487570950-513) -> users
Backup Operators (S-1-5-32-551) -> -1
Users (S-1-5-32-545) -> -1

This script must be failing.
