samba - May 2003 - can't add machine to domain with 2.999+3.0.alpha23

Hello,

Using 2.999+3.0.alpha23 I can no longer add a machine to a domain: the
delos$ account gets created in /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow, then samba
complains: 

"add_smbfilepwd_entry: cannot add account delos$ without unix
identity"

but the delos$ unix account exists 

Am I missing something?
