Yes as a matter of fact , I did find a solution to it. It was a matter of lateral thinking. In your w2k client run regedit Then go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon Under passwordexpirywarning put the value of 0 Reboot and solution solved. Hi all, I am running samba-2.2.6 on RH62 providing local workgroup shares for a mixture of 98/NT/2000/XP clients. I'd like to configure samba to somehow detect when a password is expired and pop up a box on the client workstation to require users to change their password. Is this possible? Does it work on all of 98/NT/2000/XP machines? I've tried various /usr/bin/passwd command-line arguments to actually expire someone's password, but that also doesn't seem to work. It seems to get ignored entirely. Can someone with more experience than myself provide the information necessary to make this happen? Hi all Just a query on the capabilities of the upcoming v3 release. Will password expiry capabilities be implemented in a default smbpasswd installation without resorting to LDAP? (or is it already a capability and I've just missed something?)

I do not intend to change the default semantics of smbpasswd, because that would cause too much disruption to existing sites. However, we do need to look at some nasty issues with migration to LDAP, which might resolve this issue in some way.
