Greetings ... Sorry to be a little off topic, but I was wondering if anybody knows of a free lpd for Windows? I hate sharing printers using the M$ way. See all them computers on my network is just not pleasing, I like the way Novell does it. I was thinking of lpd, LPRng or CUPS with cygwin, but can't seem to find any binaries. Thanks. Windows NT, 2k, XP have something like a "UNIX printer support" driver or what's it called. AFAIK it's an lpd implementation, but not idea whether client or server or both. I never used it, just remember having seen it. Maybe you could try that one, it's in somewhere in Windows Setup (look for network stuff) HTH, -Malte>-----Original Message----- >From: samba-admin@lists.samba.org >[mailto:samba-admin@lists.samba.org] On Behalf Of C.Lee Taylor >Sent: Thursday, September 12, 2002 4:59 PM >To: samba@lists.samba.org >Subject: [Samba] OT - LPD for Windows ... > > >Greetings ... > > Sorry to be a little off topic, but I was wondering if >anybody knows of a >free lpd for Windows? Someone on samba-digest inquired about a Windows 9x LPD Spooler...>>>-----Original Message----- >>>From: samba-admin@lists.samba.org >>>[mailto:samba-admin@lists.samba.org] On Behalf Of C.Lee Taylor >>>Sent: Thursday, September 12, 2002 4:59 PM >>>To: samba@lists.samba.org >>>Subject: [Samba] OT - LPD for Windows ... >>> >>> >>>Greetings ... >>> >>> Sorry to be a little off topic, but I was wondering if >>>anybody knows of a free lpd for Windows?"Free" ones (in every sense of the word) I don't know. Other, I only know 2: WinLPR Spooler and "ACITS" (whatever that means). WinLPR Spooler is highly configurable, robust and Shareware. ACITS I don't know very well, but it is kind of difficult to debug, as it is hiding its presence very well (while you can always open a WinLPR window). ACITS is sold by the University of Texas as a commercial license AFAIK (~ 80.- $US for 1 user, 800.- $US for 100 users...). http://ich2www.ich.kfa-juelich.de/wlprspl/ (WinLPR Spooler) http://www.utexas.edu/academic/otl/software/lpr/ (ACITS LPR Remote Printing)>>> I hate sharing printers>>>using the M$ way.
