Well, obviously there are a lot of variables here.
Being an amateur, here is what I would do.
I would rework my smb.conf on the new server, making it as simple as
possible.
Below is what I use on my home network. This is a linux server for a
mixed network (small!) of windows98 machines and xp home and pro. If it
works with one of your problem windows clients, I would then just add,
one by one, all the additional parameters I am sure you need in a work
environment, and sooner or later you will hit the problem. Notice I don't
use passwords. You may have problems with password encryption with those
win95 clients, some of whom don't use encrypted passwords, maybe.
