All, Just received our first win2k/sp1 machine here. We currently have two solaris 2.6 samba installations running. One is on our print server and is version 1.19.something. The other is on our file server and is version 2.0.0. The win2k machine seems quite happy to print from the 1.19 version and there seem to be problems there. However, when I try to connect to the file server machine I get the following error in windows. "The remote procedure called failed and did not execute" the following lines also appear in my log.smb file: [2001/01/29 11:41:30, 2] smbd/reply.c:reply_special(95) netbios connect: name1=[SAMBA SERVER] name2=[WIN2K CLIENT] [2001/01/29 11:41:33, 2] smbd/server.c:exit_server(406) Closing connections The upshot of this to me appears to be a need to upgrade my samba installation or is there a fix/windows setup change that will prevent me from having to upgrade ? I don't know if the use plain passwors can do any good. It should, from what I know. I didn' t try it so you'll have to do it. Hi! I've just installed Samba 2.2.0alpha3 and upgraded from Samba 2.0.x to get my Windows 2000 Pro-clients to work with the server. But the problem is that they don't. The samba-server won't accept the machines as part of the domain. I have added the machines to the /etc/passwd and smbpasswd files and it works ok with my older NT clients. I read some about problems with different versions of Win2k Pro. Would it be possible to solve the problem by getting the latest source from the CVS archive? Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks Daniel
Dear Miguel, This mailing list (samba-technical) is intended for discussions about the development of Samba. I have copied this reply to the samba@samba.org mailing list, which is intended for problems relating to configuring and administering Samba. After configuring smb.conf I can see my linux box in my win 2k "my network" but I can not browse its contents. The following message appears every time I try to open it: --------------------------------------------------------------------------- "win2k machine" is not accessible. The network path was not found" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- I was wondering if somebody could suggest what might be wrong and/or a good reference for seting up samba from red hat 7.1 with a win 2k machine. Many thanks! Sincerely, Miguel
I am running samba 2.0.6 on Mandrake 7.0. After converting all of our desktop PC from NT to Win2k, our samba connections have been flaky at best. Most recently, samba has dropped the connections, and it will not allow a connect again. I know that samba is still running, because our lone NT server still has not failed to reconnect. I tried to install samba 2.2.3a from rpms. The installation returned a list of dependancy errors. Do I need a newer version of samba? Rob
