Add Win2kPro Workstation to new Linux PDC
I created a new virtual Linux server running the Red Hat v7.2 distribution. After getting a MySQL/PHP application running, the next step was to add a Win2kPro Workstation to a new Linux PDC. Towards that end I modified the smb.conf file as described below to turn the virtual Linux server into a stand alone PDC. A 'MACHINE.SID' was created in the /usr/local/samba/private directory. Additionally, I created some Linux users and populated the smbpass...

File shares seem to timeout?
Hi, I have a samba server joined to a Win 2000 domain. It all works fine except that for some reason if a Win2KPro client has a file/folder open overnight (or for a long time), then they are disconnected. I can't find a relevant timeout setting when browsing through swat. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks, Alistair. _________________________________________________________________ Hotmail now available...

samba will not work for me... :/
I've had this problem since FreeBSD 4.3. This problem continues with my FreeBSD 4.4 machine. I can't connect from my Win98se and Win2kPro machines to my FreeBSD 4.4 Samba server. I've tried it all... but still no luck. I've run smbd and nmbd manually with the "-D" parameter. I can connect internally from my FreeBSD 4.4 box using "./smbclient //(hostname)/test" However, when I try to map "\\(hostna...

Win2k needs password twice
Hi, I've recently upgraded a few of the win98 machines here to win2kpro, and now, after logging in, the password has to be entered again for the shares. I've searched around but can't find a solution to this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is on Samba 2.0.7 on FreeBSD, and here is smb.conf: [global] guest account = nobody secu...

WinZip causes Server to fail - Please help.......
...l logs get overwritten by the reboot process. Up until now, our cure has been to simply use winzip 7 (and hence avoid the problem), however a new package has been installed on the client workstations that uses an integrated version of winzip 8. Client workstations range from Win95 through Me to Win2kPro, XP Home/Pro & Win2k Server in application mode - no corrolation between client OS and the issue has been detected I appologise for the lack of real detail (full OS, SMB etc configurations are available if requested), but the issue appears to hitting every SMB server i've built regardless...

Firefox problems
...tabs I now nearly always get an error that attempts to mail itself off to Mozilla. After several dozen of these I just close them now. I have removed and re-installed Firefox several times without relief. I have these same problems on at least two different machines that I use, one running Win2Kpro and the other Win XPpro. I am not looking for a fix here, but I was wondering if anyone had further information on the subject that they are willing to share. backup roaming profiles server

But if the BDC is on its part of the network, and the profile server is not available, it won't be good. my PCs are win2Kpro and NT4 machines. If anyone has a good solution, I would love to hear them!

...t the use of Samba. This is my situation: I have one Win2k domain with Active Directory. The main network has only one PDC, but in others networks I have 5 servers more, all under the same main domain (I don't have subdomains). I need to put some files in a Solaris 8 and 9 servers that Win2kPro and WinXP can to access, with its domain accounts. Aditionally, I neet to put security to the shares in Solaris under the Active Directory Accounts. So, when a user with permisions to access the shared folder in Solaris, get the files, through his/her Windows Active Directory account. First:...

Samba / Win2K Disconnects - HELP!
Samba and Win2k just don't seem to want to work together. I get disconnects after about 13MB of data transfer, and the Win2k box just loses the share as if it were disconnected. Re-establishing the share works, but data transfer of large files or working with large amounts of data is impossible. From the amount of traffic on this newsgroup regarding WinXP and Win2K problems with Samba, I

VPN via PPTP and MPPE
...I have configured the pptpd server on Centos4 to use MS_CHAPv2, 128bit encryption and to assign server side and client IP addresses in the range a.b.c.42-48 and a.b.c.52-58 respectively. I have also opened the firewall for tcp port 1723 and the GRE protocol (47). I have configured a Microsoft Win2Kpro client and I can connect and establish a VPN. However I am missing something because: 1. If I try and connect to a machine on the local network segment then the VPN channel is not used (this is probably the correct behaviour but it is not what I want and I need to know how to force local netw...

Samba/LDAP Authentication and SSL Conflicts
...indows2000 session. 6) Logout of the Windows session. Remember that the Samba option "ldap ssl = no" is still set. 7) Logon to the Windows session is now broken. The Windows box can't access the LDAP authentication server, presumably because I turned off SSL. My diagnosis is that Win2kPro uses SSL for secure login but not for share accesses? Does this make any sense? Seems like Samba is polling different ports for the LDAP, and gets a response one way, but not the other. I've tried altering the SSL settings in ldap.conf, but turning these on makes my Unix side logins fail (I&...

Samba and Win2k
All, Just received our first win2k/sp1 machine here. We currently have two solaris 2.6 samba installations running. One is on our print server and is version 1.19.something. The other is on our file server and is version 2.0.0. The win2k machine seems quite happy to print from the 1.19 version and there seem to be problems there. However, when I try to connect to the file server machine I get

cupsaddsmb and .inf files
Hi, I've also got problems downloading drivers from samba to a windows client. I'm running Debian Samba 3.0.7-1, and Cupssys 1.1.20final My Windows Client is a Win2KPro. I succesfully installed my printers with Cups and they work fine under Linux, and from remote cups clients. I've been trying to follow the samba docs on serving postscript drivers for cups from the print share in section: http://us4.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/CUPS-print...

What to do for ACL support?
Hi! I'm trying to setup samba 2.2.4 on MandrakeLinux 8.2. The server should act as a file storage for about 25 Windows 2000 clients. Setting up a "basic" server which just serves the files is easy. However, I'd also like to support NT ACLs on the Samba server. Well, what do I have to do, to get it to work? I'm using the Mandrake RPM for 2.2.4, which has ACL support
