Since version 20020509 I've had nothing but problems, so I decided to reinstall the OS, format all partitions, and reinstall all drivers and programs and updates in the hope that wine will then work correctly. It's taken about 11 hours; I've now installed wine again, but for some reason I had to do make install --ignore-errors; wine did not start after wineinstall; I now get this message: $wine pcripto.exe (This has always worked with wine) wine: Unhandled exception, starting debugger... wine: Unhandled exception, starting debugger... wine: Unhandled exception, starting debugger... wine: Unhandled exception, starting debugger... And so on for about 50 lines, at the end I get this message: wine: Unhandled exception, starting debugger... wine: Unhandled exception, starting debugger... Protocol error:0x8138a80: bad wait fd And nothig else happens, is there a solution to this?

Reinstalling the OS to make wine work? Definitely should not be required under any circumstances. What OS did you install? Does it come with its own Wine? Did you uninstall it first? Did you use ./tools/wineinstall to do the initial wine compile and configuration (I assume you are using the CVS Wine)? Did you start with a fresh ~/.wine/config?
I had to install the OS for other reasons too, the OS is Linux Mandrake 8.2,I have (re)donwloded all the updates, I'm using the tar.gz from ibiblio.org version wine-20020804, I started with a fresh .wine/config, I tried ./tools/wineinstall, ./configure && make depend && make make install and ./configure && make depend ignore-errors && make ignore-errors #make install --ignore-errors but nothing helped.> puoti@inwind.it wrote: > > Since version 20020509 I've had nothing but problems, so I decided to > > reinstall the OS, format all partitions, and reinstall all drivers and > > programs and updates in the hope that wine will then work correctly. > > It's taken about 11 hours; I've now installed wine again, but for some > > reason I had to do make install --ignore-errors; wine did not start > > after wineinstall; I now get this message: > > $wine pcripto.exe (This has always worked with wine) > > wine: Unhandled exception, starting debugger... > > wine: Unhandled exception, starting debugger... > > wine: Unhandled exception, starting debugger... > > wine: Unhandled exception, starting debugger... > > And so on for about 50 lines, at the end I get this message: > > wie: Unhandled exception, starting debugger... > > wine: Unhandled exception, starting debugger... > > Protocol error:0x8138a80: bad wait fd > > And nothig else happens, is there a solution to this? > > Yikes! The only errors I noticed is that make install didn't install everything so wine could not start, and something in /tools that I don't compile with success from months, but ignore-errors has solved the problem until now, and I never had any problems with wine when doing this..> On Sat, 17 Aug 2002, puoti@inwind.it wrote: > > > Since version 20020509 I've had nothing but problems, so I decided to > > reinstall the OS, format all partitions, and reinstall all drivers and > > programs and updates in the hope that wine will then work correctly. > > It's taken about 11 hours; I've now installed wine again, but for some > > reason I had to do make install --ignore-errors; wine did not start > > after wineinstall; I now get this message: > > How can you say Wine compiles, then? I'm basicly using the office wine relese 20020804, as linked from www.winehq.com/download. Wine was not installed with the OS, I know that for sure, there was no previous version of wine installed before I compiled from source, and in ld.so.conf the path to /usr/local/lib/wine has been added by wineinstall, at least that was the output; I have tried with an rpm, and it all works fine, but I have no openglide support, and have to use a old version, is there any chance of getting the tar.gz version to work?> puoti@inwind.it wrote: > > I had to install the OS for other reasons too, the OS is Linux Mandrake > > 8.2,I have (re)donwloded all the updates, I'm using the tar.gz from > > ibiblio.org version wine-20020804, I started with a fresh .wine/config, > > I tried ./tools/wineinstall, ./configure && make depend && make > > make install and ./configure && make depend ignore-errors && make > > ignore-errors #make install --ignore-errors but nothing helped. > > Hmm, well I have no idea what ibiblio.org has.
