[Wine] Do the developers of wine get royalties or developement support from cross over office and transgaming companies
I would like to know if wine developers (well team) receives royalties or support from transgaming and cross over office creators. Because I am disgusted that the Wine creators spent so much time and effort and hard work into their creation with good intension's whilst transgaming and cross over office developers use there system to profit on things that are a necessity rather than just being a nice unnecessary feature to the OS. If this is the case and the creators of wine are not offered anything by these two companies then the two companies really should have no right developing out of date software on the hard working backs of the wine creators and also should be restricted from using the wine creators software to run there software I see this as a great injustice if it is the case. Thank you, please respond with your answers to my question.

(now it'd be a nightmare to write a licence that only allows using/developing/enhancing/... free software "the right way" ;-) ) regards, Joris

I would say that more than half of the development is done by Crossover people. For example, just browse through the authors of the CVS commits for this month: http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-cvs/2006-February/subject.html Without Codeweavers (the company behind Crossover) Wine would be nowhere near where it is today.

They're off in their own world. The sales of Codeweavers Crossover Office, on the other hand, directly pays for Wine development. Jeremy White, the CEO of Codeweavers, is a big LGPL fan, and he's poured lots of effort into the LGPL wine tree. If you want to get mad at somebody, try SpecOps Labs and their David ripoff of Wine, and TurboLinux for including David in their distro. (Anyone gotten a copy of the David sources yet?)
