asterisk users - Sep 2004 - Caller ID Info from Cisco router to Asterisk

Dear Asterisk Gurus:

Our county is finally ready to begin implementing IP telephony.  We intend
to use a Cisco router as our PSTN gateway and Asterisk as our soft switch.
The plan is to use SIP between the Cisco router and Asterisk.  We will have
a single PRI T1 connected to the Cisco router for PSTN access.  My question
is this:

	Are Cisco routers able to pass caller ID information (from PRI T1)
to Asterisk when using SIP?

I've done some reasonable searching of the archives and the wiki.  I've
found some good examples of Cisco configurations, but most examples relate
to FXO ports (and most of the FXO ports are of the variety that do not
support caller ID).  I was not able to find a definitive answer to this
question when using PRI for inbound calls.

I'm grateful for any assistance in answering this question.

Unless you define otherwise, Cisco always sends the CalledID (ANI)
received.
This is done setting the clid restriction on the dial-peer. 
You can checkit using
	"show call active voice" in the CLI on the cisco

Can I ask, why do you want to use a Cisco router for only 1 PRI, which 
Asterisk can easily handle with a Digium card?  The Ciscos (at least the 
AS5300s) are much more expensive than a ~$500 card.  If you start having 
DS3s of data, I could start to see a Cisco argument :-)...

You most certainly can ask that (you just did!).  I realize a Digium card
can do the job, and I do have Digium cards right now.  However, we want to
separate our PSTN connection from the Asterisk server.  One of the goals of
our environment is that our servers have no specialized hardware installed
so that any one server can do all the same jobs as another.  Therefore we
would want to use an external device for the actual connection to the PSTN.

Additionally, we do plan for future expansion that will make more efficient
use of a Cisco router.

Have you resolved this issue,
I have a friend who has a solution that involves using autocreatepeer in
sip.conf.
I don't like that solution for the obvious security reasons, however I
don't
know a better one.
Please, let me know if you know of a different solution and if you want me
to forward you the setup with autocreatepeer.
