Between the jukebox being web enabled and all of us hanging off of a cable modem, all interaction was basically picking music and talking on our IRC channel. I think at the time I had 2 computers in my bedroom( 1 for me and 1 for my girlfriend), a machine with wireless keyboard on the TV, a VT220 next to the recliner, my room mate had his machine in his bedroom, and I think there was 2 or 3 other machines scattered between the "dining room" and the living room. This was also about mid 1997 or so. Been there done that, been clean from that crack pipe for a couple of years now. I now am able to get in get my questions answered and get out before the addiction sets in.> ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Steven Critchfield" <critch@basesys.com> > To: <asterisk-users@lists.digium.com> > Sent: Thursday, January 08, 2004 5:43 PM > Subject: RE: [Asterisk-Users] Mailing list growth > > > > On Thu, 2004-01-08 at 10:53, Scott Stingel wrote: > > > Anyone know how many people now subscribe to the asterisk-users mail list? > > > > > > Yes, the number of new posts is getting overwhelming! Just a suggestion, Could Digium make lists.digium.com accessible like a news server (NNTP) somehow ? Thanks Panny Malialis Hotlinks Internet Services
I still think we need something more fine grained. I think we can add the asterisk-biz list, and eventually something akin to a newbie list, but need a more appropriate name, IMHO. Couldnt agree more with the online docos.... wish I could help, maybe soon! Certainly would reduce the number of basic config questions (coming from myself - I would rather read docos than annoy people!)

VoIP will remain on > asterisk-users.[...] That doesn't quite sound right. Maybe it is from your perspective, but are you telling me that the NOCs with 80+ 7960's running VoIP don't count as a large installation? Of course, the term large is also relative. A 4-port T1 card on its own....even 2 or 3 of them, could never by any stretch of my imagination be considered a large installation......but I deal with (among other things) Definity's that service near entire buildings in mid-town Manhattan with multiple DS3s....so it's all relative. The problem with splitting VoIP and T1/TDM/whatever you want to call it is that the crossover is huge, and where the problems lie often aren't clear to those looking for help. Daryl G. Also, just as an example.....the VoIP list would have discussions on it like the recent calling card app....well, that doesn't sounds newbieish at all. Has anyone actually taken the time to do a message/category classification and breakdown to see if the proposed split even makes sense? Would we end up with 10 messages a day in -biz, 25 or so in -tdm and 100 in -users?> As Robert pointed out LISTSERV has some nice topic features > that could > help, however the license ist costly (we have two LISTSERVs > running). My guess is that > there are other > MLMs out there that have similar features.LISTSERV is evil, and yes, there are (listserv is evil mostly because of the abhorrent cost of something that is available via open source/free alternatives and a couple of perl/awk/sed scripts).
