Unless I'm misremembering, these are midway between small server and
mainframe. I just did a search, and only found used systems, never new,
and they were all "refurbed", starting at $1500, and going up to $22k...
and still refurbed.
I think my guess of new, > $100k is about right.

Rsync / SSH / Cygwin .. permission problems..
I am attempting to use rsync to "mirror" data between several windows 2000
and windows XP systems. I am a UNIX person by nature, so decided the
easiest way to go about doing this would be to use Cygwin with cron and ssh
running as services, then run the rsync connection nightly through cron.
Cygwin is installed on both systems and works perfectly. OpenSSH is
installed and running,

Indexing problem 10.9/10.10
...er process, and run the size() method it is stuck at
a number of documents much smaller than the number I''ve added to the index.
Eg. 290k -- when the indexer process has already gone through 1 M.
Additionally, if I search, I don''t get results past an
even smaller number of docs (22k) . I''ve tried the two latest ferret releases.
Does this listing of the index directory look right?

how to improve sound file quality?
We have recorded wav files with 44k, 22k, 16k, 11k and 8k
Asterisk does not accept these wav files. I used sox input.wav
output.gsm to get them to work.
However, the only the 8k file did convert and the quality is poor. How
can I improve the quality?

recursive snaptshot
I thought I recalled reading somewhere that in the situation where you
have several zfs filesystems under one top level directory like this:
rpool
rpool/ROOT/osol-112
rpool/export
rpool/export/home
rpool/export/home/reader
you could do a shapshot encompassing everything below zpool instead of
having to do it at each level.
(Maybe it was in a dream...)

Re: Cannot run Win16 installer for Judaic Classics
Thank you. Unfortunately, I bit more than I can swallow. I redirected the output of strace to a file, but it has more than 22k lines. How do I sensibly winnow that down? I have never used strace before and the output is overwhelming.
Alternatively/additionally, is there something similar for windows, which I can use to check what happens under windows, with a functioning copy of the program I am researching?

Possible memory leak with large matrices in R v.2.5.0
I'm working with a very large matrix ( 22k rows x 2k cols) of RNA
expression data with R v.2.5.0 on a RedHat Enterprise machine, x86_64
architecture.
The relevant code is below, but I call a function that takes a cluster

the rows (genes ) in the cluster by ID, but no...

IceS 2.0a - Extended sleep requested
Thanks for offering to help, Karl.
Config - I thought my email was long even without the
config files so I didn't include them! They are normal
random playlist configs. What aspects are you looking
for?
CPU - vmstat 1 gives consistant CPU readings of around
2,1,97 for us,sy,id respectively when no one is
listening to the streams. There's hardly any change
when a client starts listening.

...thing more than a backdoor attempt to strip professionals of overtime pay under the disguise of providing overtime to a mere 800K people. As a result, over 8MILLION Americans loose overtime pay because they make more the 22,000 which is the cutoff point for overtime pay. So ANYONE making more than $22K is NOT eligible for overtime pay.
2) Then there's the NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND ACT which educators call the NO CHILD LEFT ACT. It strips funding for 'gifted' students (how are American children supposed to be the best and brightest?) and yet it keeps funding for bi-lingual teachers needed...
