I'm looking for anyone who has some vendors for rackmount PC hardware in a fairly decent configuration for Asterisk/Digium T1 termination. I am looking for well-built hardware from an integrator that understands correct component choice. Preferably, I'd like SCSI but I might be able to do Ultra-IDE platforms. I need at least two PCI slots in the chassis (so 2u/3u size factor is OK.) URLs are appreciated. If you have a vendor from whom you've received hardware for use with Asterisk and are impressed with their quality, do them a favor and send it along. Especially useful are hints about vendors who have "lights-out" motherboards where the BIOS is accessible via a serial port. JT
I've always used SuperMicro equipment for high-end servers. I haven't used on for Asterisk (yet), but they should work swimmingly. Some of the boards also include the lights-out feature you want. SuperMicro also sell 1U, 2U, and 4U chassis in varying configurations. www.supermicro.com <shamelessplug> We're a Canadian reseller of SuperMicro equipment, so if you're in Canada and want a quote, please let us know. </shamelessplug> -wade> -----Original Message----- > From: asterisk-users-admin@lists.digium.com [mailto:asterisk-users- > admin@lists.digium.com] On Behalf Of John Todd > Sent: Monday, April 21, 2003 7:51 PM > To: asterisk-users@lists.digium.com > Subject: [Asterisk-Users] Rackmount PC hardware suggestions > > > I'm looking for anyone who has some vendors for rackmount PC hardware > in a fairly decent configuration for Asterisk/Digium T1 termination. > I am looking for well-built hardware from an integrator that > understands correct component choice. I have been implementing Asterisk (T1 on T100P) on off-lease (really low-cost :) Compaq Proliant rackmount hardware with excellent results. I needed redundancy wherever possible, along with low-cost machines, and found that buying off-lease Proliants from ebay sellers to be a very effective way to achieve this goal. So far, I have yet to attempt anything with Asterisk that a PIII 1850R (available for ~$400) cannot handle, and have had amazing luck with machines as low-powered as a PPro 850R. YMMV, of course... Just my $0.02. -Matthew Farley On Mon, 2003-04-21 at 18:50, John Todd wrote:> I'm looking for anyone who has some vendors for rackmount PC hardware > in a fairly decent configuration for Asterisk/Digium T1 termination. > I am looking for well-built hardware from an integrator that > understands correct component choice. While I have not specifically used them with Asterisk, I have been *very* impressed with Silicon Mechanics (www.siliconmechanics.com). We had previously searched for quality 1U hardware with no special features and had been constantly disappointed with low-quality hardware or bad ordering/support process. When I found SM, I got a 1U server (only 1PCI, but of course they offer MANY configuration options) that was made with quality parts and that supported serial-console access (the lights out you mentioned). So far I have only good things to say about them. Oh, and I'm not affiliated in any way other than being a happy customer. Hope that helps. -BAK On Mon, 2003-04-21 at 19:50, John Todd wrote:> I'm looking for anyone who has some vendors for rackmount PC hardware > in a fairly decent configuration for Asterisk/Digium T1 termination. > I am looking for well-built hardware from an integrator that > understands correct component choice.
