Rackmount PC hardware suggestions
I'm looking for anyone who has some vendors for rackmount PC hardware in a fairly decent configuration for Asterisk/Digium T1 termination. I am looking for well-built hardware from an integrator that understands correct component choice. Preferably, I'd like SCSI but I might be able to do Ultra-IDE platforms. I need at least two PCI slots in th...

Dell PowerEdge 750 rackmount
Hi- I have an upcoming order for a bunch of asterisk boxes, and I'm considering using an "assembled" package for the server, instead of building them from components as I usually do. Does anyone have experience with the Dell PowerEdge 750 server, or any other 1U rackmount server for use with asterisk? Thanks in advance Scott Stingel Scott M. .../lib/modules/2.6.16-xen/Build directory. Can anyone help me out? I am not helped with advice to select a pci ethercard because i need the riserboard slot for a additional gigabitcard for i-scsi storage. and because of expensive rackspace i can put a little effort in making it fit in a 1HE 19" rackmount. Maybe you can also suggest a mainboard wich is compatible with xen and fits in a 1HE rackmount. HP/Compaq Rackmount UPS Support?
Hi, I have an HP R5500XR and a Compaq R3000XR that I would like to use with nut. I searched the compatibility lists and the mail list archives but couldn't find anything. They both have 9 pin serial ports. Can anyone give me any information about them, and if they are supported by nut? Thanks, Denny Fox

Motherboard and chipset compatibility
...OT of chipsets, as evidenced by http://www.supermicro.com/support/faqs/os.cfm) are supported by CentOS 6 / RHEL 6? I have not been able to find this information on either the Intel, RedHat, or CentOS web sites. Third (more general) question: My requirements are (I believe) modest: * 1U short-depth rackmount chassis OR Mini-ITX small-footprint chassis * Dual GbE network ports * Dual 1920x1200 monitor display * One SSD drive * 32-bit CentOS 6.4 compatible. It's the combination of the first, third, and fifth requirements that really seems to get me hung up. I've found plenty of 1U server systems...

[OT] CAT5 IP-capable rackmount KVM units?
Rather off-topic, but I'm looking for IP-based KVMs (~16 ports) that can handle both PS/2 and USB hookups on the server side. All of the answers over at Slashdot are a few years out of date and it looks like prices on KVM head units have dropped a bit over the years. Some of the older units only worked with Windows, Internet Explorer and ActiveX. Others like the ATEN KH1516i supposedly

...eplacing some old APC SmartUPS 5000s with something that has USB so NUT can more easily talk with it (and yes, I've tried USB-RS232 adapters and every one I tried started kicking out errors within a few hours). One of the bids we have is for a "Tripp Lite UPS Smart Online 5000VA 4500W Rackmount 5kVA 200V/240V" as the potential replacement unit. I have no experience with Tripp Lite UPSs and the reviews I've found online are scant and fairly mixed so I thought I'd ask here... Does anyone on this list have experience with these UPSs? Any thoughts? Would you buy it again? Doe...

[Hardware] Good Server I/O on-the-cheap: ASL Monarch 811x with CentOS 4.2 ...
...750, you can get a single Socket-939 Opteron 1xx (dual-core is an option) system with up to 4GiB of ECC (but non- registered) DDR SDRAM, up to 4 hot-swap SATA bays (8114 model), one PCI- X slot (perfect for a 3Ware card, which they _do_ support ;-) and dual on-board GbE Broadcom NICs -- all in a 1U rackmount form-factor. The resulting I/O performance is excellent at the price-point for those that want a good server I/O well beyond typical "desktop/workstation" but for around the same price. The 4 hot-swap drive configuration, with a decent amount of RAM, 3Ware card with the 4 drives in RAID...

APC Smart-ups "status codes" (slightly OT)
We got replacement battery "kits" for some of our APC UPS' (Smart-UPS, rackmount). I put them into one tray (it's for an RBC 43, which takes 8, and weighs a ton), and put it in, and let it charge. Idiot "change battery" led stays on. So I hit the test button, it discharges very rapidly (a good number of servers on this), and the led stays on. For some reason, apc...

Install to internal USB?
Saw a trick today, wondering if anybody else had done/tried this? Assume you have a 1U rackmount with 4 front-accessed drive bays, and you want all four bays for a 4-disk RAID5 storage. The idea is to use an internal USB adapter and a couple of bigger USB thumb drives to install to, RAID 1 style, freeing up all your external drive bays. At first, I didn't think that a thumb drive would...
