R help - Feb 2010 - installation of package 'e1071' had non-zero exit status

[R] installation of package 'e1071' had non-zero exit status

I tried twice to install package "e1071"as it provides the Hamming
distance. The installation failed twice.
I am running  R version 2.9.0 (2009-04-17).
Any suggestion is welcome.
