How to turn off the timeslider snapshots on certain file systems? Using: System/Administration/timeslider from default desktop menu item System, I see a dialog to first enable[x] timeslider. Then 3 columns show a checkbox at lines with `mount point'' and `File System'' listed. I had assumed that removing the check mark from certain file systems would disable timeslider on the filesystem, so unchecked several and then clicked OK. Next time I look at System/Administration/Timeslider... I see all the same boxes I unchecked are now back in the checked state. That is, my changes did not stick. Should I expect that dialog to be able to turn of `Timeslider'' on specific file systems? I''m not prompted for a root password when working with the `timeslider'' dialog either... and it seem that would be a protected activity. Anyway... how can I turn off auto snapshots for specific filesystems? Is the `Timeslider'' dialog just dis-functional... or is it a local config problem?

At System/Administation/timeslider... when I uncheck specific filesystems and click OK. They don''t stay unchecked and auto snaps continue. Leaving the command line argument shown... which work great. Thanks. I wonder if the gui dialog is just dis-functional... or some local config causing it to fail.

Hi Harry, Are you attempting this change when logged in as yourself or as root? The top section of this procedure describes how to add yourself to zfssnap role. Otherwise, if you are doing this step as a non-root user, it probably won''t work. If I change my zfs filesystems in a way that even ONE of those com.sun:auto-snapshot:* is not used anymore time-slider goes nuts. For this reason, and for this reason only I made sure -ALL- versions of auto-snapshot are used SOME where ;-) That way they keep running and time-slider is happy. I have not gone into it deeply, but somehow services stopped running if not needed and you get those dependency missing messages ;-/ -- Dick Hoogendijk -- PGP/GnuPG key: 01D2433D + http://nagual.nl/ | nevada / OpenSolaris 2009.06 release + All that''s really worth doing is what we do for others (Lewis Carrol)

BTW - will zfs automatically delete snapshots, when I`ll go low on disk space? -- With respect, Nik Maslov

And in role `root'' $ roles postgres, root, zfssnap I''m not sure how a user can access the gui tool without being logged in as themselves. Since the tool is on the dropdown menu System. Do you mean root has to log into X? But anyway.. the command lines shown on that page are much handier anyway. I just wondered if the Gui tool was working as expected.

[zfs-discuss] Turn off the time slider on some zpools
Hi Mykola, Yes, if you are speaking of the automatic TimeSlider snapshots, the snapshots are rotated. I think the threshold is 80% full disk space. Cheers, Cindy Mykola Maslov wrote:>> >>> How to turn off the timeslider snapshots on certain file systems? >> >> >> http://wikis.sun.com/display/OpenSolarisInfo/How+to+Manage+the+Automatic+ZFS+Snapshot+Service >> > > > Thank you, very handy stuff! > > BTW - will zfs automatically delete snapshots, when I`ll go low on disk > space? > >
