It has been pointed out to me that if you have set up a zfs boot configuration using the old-style prototype code (where you had to have a ufs boot slice), and you BFU that system with a version of the Solaris archives that contain the new zfsboot support, your system will panic. So until we figure out a reasonable migration path (and I''m not sure that one exists), assume that you cannot bfu an old-style zfs boot setup. You must do a fresh install. A formal "Heads-up" mail will go out later, but I wanted to get the word out on this immediately. Lori Alt
So any date on when install utility will support zfs root fresh install? almost can''t wait for that. Cheers, Ivan. This message posted from opensolaris.org

Hey, it''s NEVADA and zfs definitely is in Area 51 so perhaps they are working "... as alienly possible" :)))) -- Best regards, Robert mailto:rmilkowski at task.gda.pl http://milek.blogspot.com
Hello Lori, Any chances to get ''how_to_netinstall_zfsboot'' to public? -- Best regards, Robert mailto:rmilkowski at task.gda.pl http://milek.blogspot.com

I''m updating the install procedure and tool to support two things that it didn''t support before: * setup of a dump slice, since zfs doesn''t yet support dumping into a zvol. A zvol should be used for swap * splitting the Solaris name space into separate datasets for root, /usr, /var, /opt and /export. This is not required at this time, but we are likely to require it, or at least strongly recommend it, in the released version, because it simplifies some liveupgrade issues. Lori
This may be a very stupid question, but.... In the current procedure, we have to install onto UFS then convert the UFS to ZFS... During install, we can launch a terminal and run ZFS commands... Would it be possible, doing a fresh install, to use the terminal to run some ZFS commands and install directly onto the newly created zfs pools during install with b62? It seems that the only reason we couldn''t now is that the disk partitioning tool didn''t recognize the zfs partitions as valid. Or am I completely off on a tangent here? When the build 62 community release is available (soon, I hope, maybe today), I will test my modified version of the install software with it and then make that software available for download.
